Defining and Assigning Key Numbers
A key number is a value that identifies a form field in an application system.
Define key numbers for a product line, then assign them to the application systems that use them. This ensures that a field that belongs to many systems (for example, Company) does not have several different key numbers assigned to it.
When you press Define (F6) from a field on an application form, the system transfers you to the form associated with that form field ID. For example, when you press Define (F6) from the Company field, the system transfers you to the second form of AP00 (AP00.2) and lets you define company records. Define (F6) does not work if you do not enter an ID for a form field.
Although the ID for some fields (for example, Account) is part of another system (GL), you must define that form ID for Define (F6) to work on fields in the current system (AP). Use the System Key Number Definition (skndef) utility.
