Defining an Output Field

Use this procedure to define output fields on a form. For information on output field types, see Output Field Type Descriptions.

To define an output field

  1. On the Format form, press Output (F3) and choose an output field type.

    For a description of each kind of output field, see the table following this procedure.

  2. In the Form Output Field Definition window, change the default attributes, if desired. For more information, see Defining Output Field Attributes.
  3. Press OK.

    The field appears on the Format form.

  4. Press OK twice to save the form.

    The system saves the form and returns to the Database Structure-Program Structure form.

    The following table describes the output field types.

    Choose To
    Database Select a field from the primary or detail file, or from a file with a one-to-one relation from the primary or detail file.
    Compute Define a compute field. For instructions, see Defining a Compute Field.
    Array Value Define an array value field. For instructions, see Defining an Array Value Field.
    Record Count Count the number of records in the primary file or in a file with a one-to-many relation from the primary file. Select the file whose records you want to count.
    OTM Field Select the value of a field from the first record of a file with a one-to-many relation from the primary file.
    OTM Sum Sum the values of a field selected from a file with a one-to-many relation from the primary file.
    Current Date Paint a current date field on the form. The form can have only one current date field.
    Current Time Paint a current time field on the form. The form can have only one current time field.
    Order Name

    Paint an order name field on the form.

    An order name field displays the translation (description) of the order field value you type on the form. For more information, see the Order field description in Painting Fields on a Form - Input Field Types.
