Using This Guide

The Application Development Workbench guide is intended to be used as reference material. You need very little knowledge of the operating system to use Environment program development tools because they are menu-driven. Command line formats for tasks that you do not have to execute from the menu are also given. If you are new to Lawson Software, please read Getting Started with Lawson Portal and Getting Started with the Lawson Interface Desktop (LID) first.

This guide is written for application programmers who modify Lawson 4GL programs or create new programs to work with Lawson data. This manual covers program development tools provided on the Programmer Utilities menu. There are two platforms with a Programmer Utilities menu.

  • Application Development Workbench clients: Clients using the full suite of Application Development Workbench to modify Lawson applications or create new applications programs that integrate with Lawson Software.

  • Environment 4GL clients: Clients using the smaller, standard suite of scripting tools for Lawson program modification or ad hoc data reports.

Some utilities are not accessible in all product packages. The following abbreviations will precede some sections in order to call your attention to differences in how utilities operate, or to inform you of a section that does not apply to your product package.
