Configuring the rule file

The rule file is an XML file that enables you to give access to any securable objects (forms, reports and so on) that you want to make available from the Internet.

In addition, the appendix to this document provides examples that you can follow to make or update your rule file if necessary.

  1. Locate the rule file that was delivered with the external-facing application (for example, EMSS). Information about where to find the file is in your application documentation.
  2. Review the file and make changes if necessary for your setup. Your application documentation should provide some details about updates that you can make to the delivered rule file.

In addition, some general examples that you can follow to make or update your rule are in the Appendix to this document.

  3. Copy the rule file to the appropriate location.
  4. Add and activate the rule file in ISS.
  5. When the rule file is added to the system, test accessing the applications that are allowed from the external endpoint.

Make sure you also perform a "negative" test to verify that forms and other items that should not accessible are prohibited.
