Batch and Online Transaction Processing

Batch jobs are reports and other jobs that run in background and are managed by a queue. Online transactions are transactions that users perform in real time, such as updating data through forms.

It could be said that the main purpose of Infor Lawson as a whole is to support batch and online processing.

Illustration: Batch and online processing components

This chapter describes how Lawson handles processing of batch and online transactions. While batch and online processes are very different, some Infor Lawson components are used by each process. This chapter begins with an overview of all components that are used in both kinds of processing. Subsequent sections provide step-by-step examples of what occurs in both cases.
