Adding a Thing Resource

This procedure describes how to add a thing a resource to the Resource Management Repository.

A thing resource is a non-person resource that you want to be able to assign attributes to. Examples of thing resources include hardware devices such as printers, fax machines, and servers. A job queue or even a report might also be a thing resource.

To create a thing resource

  1. From the Resource Management Administrator toolbar, click Add and then click Resource. At the Pick Resource Type dialog, select Thing.

The Add Resource RM Object dialog box appears. This dialog box is a list of Attributes that can be assigned to a Thing resource

  2. Make selections for attributes as needed.

Only the ID and Name are required for a thing resource. It's a good idea to populate the Description and Display Name attributes. Type the same description for each. No other attributes on the Add Resource dialog box are needed. However, you can add others as needed. Refer to the complete list of attributes one of the appendixes to this document for a complete list of attributes.

  3. When you are finished adding the attributes, click the Add icon (plus sign) from the toolbar. The message "Add Successful" should appear in the bottom left corner of your screen.
