Saving and Reusing a Query Template

If the query you built is one you plan to use again, you can save it to your desktop as a template. When you run the query again, the query extracts the most current data from the Infor Lawson database. You can distribute the query template to other users by putting it on a shared drive, or by emailing it.

Note: Both Data (DME) and Transaction (AGS) query files have the extension .dme when saved. The Extended DME (.dmex) file format can also be used when opening or saving query files.

Access to data in the Infor Lawson system is defined by a user's login. When you distribute a query to other users, they can only use it to view data that their security level allows them to see.

When you open a saved query template file, the Query Wizard Fields tab displays the product line, system code, and file or form on which the saved query was based. You have three options:

  • Run the same query again.

  • Modify the template and run the query. However, you must use the same system and form/database table that you chose for the original query. For the product line, you choose it from the drop-down list.

  • Build a different query by choosing New Query.

You can also open a saved query by dragging the .dme or .dmex file into the Query Wizard window. This procedure only works for files with .dme or .dmex file type. You can only drag and drop a single file into the window; you cannot drop multiple files.

Note: You can use QryAutoLoad, a program you receive when you install Infor Lawson Add-ins, to run the template automatically outside of Query Wizard. To learn how, see "Re-running a Query Template with QryAutoLoad".
