Viewing Work File Information

To review information about the definition of a work file, you use the Work File Definition utility (workdef). You can view the following information about work files:

  • Work file definition information such as which work files are associated with a program and what type of work file each is

  • Work file record information

  • Work file index information

To view work file information

  1. In a Lawson Interface Desktop session, use Form Transfer (F8).
  2. In the Form ID field of the Form Transfer form, type workdef and click the OK button or press Enter.
  3. Select the work file whose definition you want to review.

    • For work files associated with a specific program, type in the product line, system code, and program code, and then press Select (F4) at the File Name field.

    • For work files associated with copybooks, type in the product line and then press Select (F4) at the File Name field.

  4. Review the information on the Work File definition form. You may need to page down to view all file record (field) information. If the work file is of the Index Sequential type, the file record section will indicate the key field for the index.
