ZUGFeRD enables invoice exchange between sender and recipient without requiring prior arrangements. The transfer and receipt methods include email, web downloads, fax-server, computer-fax, and DE-Mail, with email being the preferred method.
ZUGFeRD supports three profiles (Basic, Comfort, and Extended) which comprise different CII subsets which are not specific to particular industry segments. ILSP output message is based on the Extended profile.

These can create message syntax that trading partners can exchange globally. UN/CEFACT developed it with input from various business organizations, including GS1, EUROFER, CIDX, EDIFICE, AIAG/ODETTE/JAMA, GHX, UK e-Government, UK HM Customs & Excise, and EDS.

All European public administrations must be able to accept invoices in electronic format from their suppliers, in compliance with the European standards approved by CEN: UN/CEFACT XML and UBL.
The LSP Web Services Gateway provides connectivity to Access Point Providers (APP) through the PEPPOL Access Point eInvoice.
