With the implementation of the Panamanian Electronic Invoicing System (SFEP) in 2016, Panama started implementing electronic invoicing. The General Revenue Directorate (DGI) has approved the use of fiscal devices, which are electronic tools, to process, record, and store tax receipts. The total amount of taxes that must be declared is recorded in fiscal cash registers that are connected to these devices. For printing receipts, they can also link to fiscal printers.

The SFEP will replace Fiscal Devices once widespread adoption of electronic invoicing is accomplished.
