In Portugal, taxpayers must submit monthly invoices that are reported to the tax authorities. The Standard Audit File for Tax purposes (SAF-T PT) has a number of sections, which are produced and merged into a normalized XML file. The audit file is uploaded to the Portuguese Fiscal Authorities (AT) website. It covers a predefined set of accounting records, billing, transport documents, and receipts that are issued in a readable and common format, regardless of the program used, with no impact on the internal structure of the database, programs, or functionality.
