Shipment cancellation

Canceling a shipment means that the shipment procedure is not performed. You can cancel shipments just before they are loaded on to a vehicle and leave the warehouse. This is needed if, for example, the truck did not show up or the customer changed the order at the last moment.

When a shipment is canceled, you can leave the goods on the staging location or send the goods back to inventory. In location-controlled warehouses, you can return the goods to the warehouse location from which they were picked.

After the cancellation of the shipment, you can create new shipments for the underlying orders. The new shipments can be based on the underlying order, or you can finalize the underlying order lines and create new order lines for which to create the new shipments.

Like closed shipments, you can remove canceled shipments.

Entities for which cancellation is allowed

You can cancel these entities:

  • A load
  • A shipping container
  • Shipments
  • Shipment lines
  • Handling units

If handling units are present, cancellation can be done by handling unit or by load, shipping container, or any of the underlying shipments or shipment lines.

Conditions

Cancellation is allowed if the shipment lines to be canceled directly or through the related shipments, loads, or shipment containers, meet these conditions:

  • No not-shipped quantities present
  • Not yet confirmed. If frozen, they must be reopened first.
  • If handling units are involved, the handling unit status is Staged for all of the handling units within the handling unit structure.

Cancellation is allowed for a handling unit if the status is Staged, and no not-shipped quantities are present.

The cancellation process

If you cancel a load or a shipping container, all underlying shipments, shipment lines and, if present, the handling units of the shipment lines, the shipments, or the load are canceled.

If you cancel a handling unit, all child handling units down to the bottom level of the handling unit structure are also canceled.

If all of the handling units linked to a shipment line are canceled, the shipment line is also canceled. Otherwise, the canceled handling units are removed from the handling unit structure and the shipment line status is not changed.

Status updates after cancellation

When a load, shipment, or shipment line is canceled, the status is set to Canceled. When a handling unit is canceled, the status changes to In Stock if the handling unit was issued from inventory. If the handling unit was generated for the open shipment, the status changes to Closed.

The status of a load or a shipment is set to Canceled when after the cancellation no open shipment lines are present for the load or shipment. For example, if an open shipment has 12 open shipment lines and you cancel 11 shipment lines, the shipment status is not changed.

Planned loads/shipments: if a load, a shipment, or shipment line is canceled, the related planned load/shipment records are set to status Ignored.

Projected shipments update

For a canceled shipment line that is planned using the projected shipment functionality, the related planning requirements are set to Cancelled in the Outbound Order Line - Planned Shipment Requirements (whinh4183m000) session and the projected quantity is decreased in the related outbound order line.

Update outbound order line

If a shipment line or a handling unit is canceled, in the Outbound Line Status Overview (whinh2129m000) session, the canceled quantity is subtracted from these quantities:

  • Advised
  • Released
  • Picked
  • Approved

Finalize outbound order line

If the Finalize Order Line after Shipment Cancelation. check box is selected in the Cancel Shipments (whinh4230m500) session, the related outbound order lines of the canceled entities are set to status Shipped. Consequently, to ship the goods at a later stage, new outbound order lines, and, based on the new outbound order lines, new shipment lines must be created.

Handling unit update

When a handling unit is canceled, the canceled item quantity of the handling unit is displayed in the Shipment Canceled Quantity field in the Handling Unit Process Outbound (whinh2123m000) session.
