The workflow attribute can be empty before starting the activity and can be empty at the end of the activity.

mandatory on input

The workflow attribute must have a value before the activity can be started. At the end of the activity the attribute can be empty.

mandatory on output

The workflow attribute can be empty when you start the activity. However, when the activity ends the workflow attribute must have a value.

mandatory on both

The workflow attribute must have a value before the activity can be started. The workflow attribute must still contain a value (not necessarily the same as with which the activity was started) at the end of the activity.

Update Activity from WFM

The workflow attribute is imported into the session if the activity is actually started. Even though the value of the field can be changed in the session, the value is not stored in the workflow attribute at the end of the session.
