Alternative Items (tcibd0105s000)

Use this session to define and modify alternative items.

Field Information

Item

The item for which you specify alternative items.

List items cannot have alternative items, because then the specific component of the list that is replaced is not clear. You can specify alternative items for items of the following types:

  • Product
  • Purchased
  • Manufactured
  • Generic

You cannot define alternative items for standard-to-order items.

Note:
  • The Item Type Product can be used only if the Item Type Product field can be set to Active in the Implemented Software Components (tccom0100s000) session.
  • The Item Type Purchased and/or Manufactured is used only if the Item Type Product field is set to Inactive in the Implemented Software Components (tccom0100s000) session.
Note:  Segmented items consist of a project-code segment and an item-base segment (the item code). Segmented item codes are defined in the Item Code Segmentation (tcibd0500m000) session.
Alternative Item

The alternative item.

Alternative items must be of one of the following types:

  • Product
  • Purchased
  • Manufactured
  • Generic
Introduction Date

The date as of which the alternative item can be used as alternative for the standard item.

Expiry Date

The date until which the alternative item can be used as alternative for the standard item.

Priority

If several alternative items can substitute the standard item, a priority code is assigned to each alternative item. The priority code reflects the alternative item's suitability as a substitute.

A low number indicates a high priority. If you select an alternative item, you can sort the alternative items by priority.

Reverse

If this check box is selected, LN automatically defines the standard item as an alternative item for the alternative item you entered. If you delete a reversible alternative item, LN also deletes the reversed record or changes the record to non-reversible.

For example, if item B is an alternative item for item A, and you select the Reverse check box, LN defines item A to be an alternative item for item B as well.

Interchangeable

If this check box is selected, the original item and the alternative item have similar properties and are completely interchangeable.

This check box is used only for information and does not change the behavior of the system.

Replacement

If this check box is selected, the alternative item replaces the original item. This situation indicates that you must not use the original item anymore.

If you enter a replaced item on a sales order line, the system displays a warning. An item can have only one other item as replacement item.

Type of Replacement

The item's replacement status.

For an example, refer to Defining alternative and replacement items.

Allowed values

Not Applicable

The item does not replace any other item and is not replaced itself.

Replaced

The item is replaced by another item. You can find the replacing item in the Alternative Items (tcibd0505m000) session.

Substitute

The item has replaced another item. You can find the replaced item in the Alternative Items (tcibd0505m000) session.

Replaced Substitute

The item has replaced another item, and is replaced by another item itself. You can find the replacing and replaced item in the Alternative Items (tcibd0505m000) session.
