Documents and Files

Documents are revision-controlled objects that are intrinsic to the functional processes supported by PLM. You can create and update a document. You can also link items, files, and folders as a reference to the document. Each document can be revision controlled using the Check In and Check Out operations.

Files are external data entities such as Microsoft Word documents, Excel workbooks, and CAD drawings, that can be imported to PLM. The files are linked directly to documents.

Note: In PLM, documents refer to the files that contain the actual data.

If the appropriate PLM-CAD application is installed, you can open the associated files in the integrated application directly from the Documents (pdpdm2500m000) session. You can use the document details form to review document’s detail information.

Document Operations

The documents are revision controlled using document operations. Document Revision control ensures that the correct document information is available to the user and design changes are approved before the production phase. The check in, check out, status, and structure of a document functionality is included in the Document operation.
