Areas by Standard Route (fmlbd0152m000)

Use this session to view and maintain areas for standard routes.

You can use areas or zip codes to define the addresses covered by a standard route. To use zip codes to define standard route addresses, see ZIP Codes by Standard Route (fmlbd0151m000). For each standard route, you can define a number of areas.

For each area, you can define the following attributes:

  • Sequence number
  • Area
  • Reference address

The Sequence in Route determines the order in which the areas are visited by the carrier.

An area is made up of a number of addresses that share the same area code. You can allocate area codes to addresses in the Addresses - Freight Management (fmfmd0110m000) session.

The Reference Address is the most important address of the area. The distances between the Reference Address of the areas of a standard route are used for freight planning and freight cost calculation. Except for the Reference Address, the addresses inside an area are not used for freight planning and freight cost calculation, so there is no charge for transportation costs for distances travelled between the addresses inside an area. Nor is the transport time required to travel between the addresses inside an area calculated for transport planning.

Example

To define standard route AMS - PAR, Amsterdam via Brussels to Paris, you can define three areas:

  1. Sequence no. 1; Area 1; ref. address: Amsterdam pooling point.
  2. Sequence no. 2; Area 9; ref. address: Brussels pooling/break bulk point.
  3. Sequence no. 3; Area 12; ref. address: Paris break bulk point.

Transport between Area 1, Area 9 and Area 12 are charged with transport costs.
