Planner Workbench (cprrp8351m000)

Use this session to manage the resources with their underlying orders and the workload for a selected planning cluster.

The Planner Workbench consists of two parts:

  • The graph provides an overview of the utilization for the selected resources.
  • The grid displays the underlying order for the selected resources.

Selection Bar

To display resources in the graph make the following selection in the tool bar:

  • Planning Cluster
    • Select a planning cluster.
Note: You cannot select external clusters.
  • Site
    • Select one or more sites.
      Note:
      • The selected sites must be part of the selected planning cluster
      • Site selection is optional.
      .
    • Only normal sites can be selected (the “external” sites are excluded).
    • If you do not select a range of sites, all sites that are part of the planning cluster and fit the Resource and Labor / machine criteria are displayed.
  • Resources
    • Select the resource or resources you want to graph. Typically only a few resources determine the overall performance of a plant.
    • Resource capacity can be marked as critical by selecting a resource and checking the Critical check box.
    • A resource capacity can be marked as constrained by selecting a resource and checking the Constrained check box.
  • Labor / machine
    • Select Labor Hours or Machine Hours on the right side of the tool bar.
    • Labor capacity is defined on work center level.
    • The machine capacity is defined for:
      • A machine capacity group
      • A work cell
Note: The default definition of a work cell is one machine.
      • A reference operation - subcontractor location.
Note: The default definition of a reference operation - subcontractor location is one machine.

User Settings

You can define user specific settings such as:

  • Number of weeks shown on the screen
  • Maximum number of weeks available
  • Colors
  • Overload indicator threshold

You can define two thresholds, for example: > 100%: orange, > 120%: red

  • Codes or names that will be displayed in the resource columns.
  • Reference week offset, for example: based on the current date: 0, is current week, 1 is the following week, etc. Negative values is not allowed.
  • The option to display or hide the backlog column.

Selection Column

The selection column allows for an a-symmetrical selection of one or more resources. For the selected resources, the underlying orders are shown in the grid.

Zoom Column

The zoom button opens a session with detail information for the selected resource (capacity). For different resource types different information is displayed.

  • Work Center
    • Code, description
    • Location: production department, site
    • Capacity: number of F.T.E.‘s, labor hours / week
    • ...
  • Machine capacity group
    • Code, description
    • Location: work center, production department, site
    • Calendar
    • Capacity: number of machines, machine hours / week
    • ...
  • Work Cell
    • Code, description
    • Location: production department, site
    • Calendar
    • Capacity: machine hours / week
    • ...
  • Subcontractor location, reference operation
    • Code, description
    • Location: subcontractor, (external) site,
    • Capacity: machine hours / week
    • ...

Resource Capacities Columns

A simplified structure of the applicable resource capacity is displayed for the selection.

When Machine Hours are displayed:

  • (Production) site
    • Resource (work center)
      • Resource capacity (machine capacity group)
    • Resource (work cell)
      • Resource capacity (work cell machine)
    • Resource (subcontractor location)
      • Resource capacity (operation subcontracting)

When Labor Hours are displayed:

  • (Production) Site
    • Resource capacity (work center)

Backlog Column

The total capacity still required for work on the applicable resources before the start of the current week, expressed in the number of hours is displayed in this column per resource.

Note: The backlog hours are only calculated if the start of the graph is the current week, other wise the column remains blank.

Weekly utilization bars

The utilization bar is used to show a summarized proportional overview of the usage by the capacity types of the available capacity in the time bucket.

The bar is defined by five properties:

  • Available: the total capacity in the week (expressed in hours)
    • The calendar is taken into account
    • In case of a machine capacity group the number of machines is taken into account.
    • In case of a work center capacity the number of FTE is taken into account.
    • In case of a work cell capacity the number of machines is always 1.
    • In case of an operation subcontracting the available capacity is defined in the operation subcontractor list.
Note: If operation subcontracting is applicable, calendars are ignored.
  • Released: the total capacity required for the work in progress
    • Production order operations with production order status:
      • Released, Printed, Active
    • Production schedule lines with status:
      • Released, Active
    • Work order activities with work order status:
      • Released
    • o PCS activities with status:
      • Active
  • Created: the total capacity required for the committed but not yet released work
    • Production orders operations with production order status:
      • Created, Modify
    • o Production schedules with status
      • Free, Firm
    • Work orders activities with work order status:
      • Free, Planned
    • PCS activities with status:
      • Free, Simulated
  • Planned: the total capacity
    • Critical capacity requirement (master planning)
    • CTP reservation
    • Planned (EP) production orders (all statuses)
    • Planned (EP) production schedules (all statuses)
  • Free: the remaining hours
    • When negative the bar should be marked as overload

Overload Indicator

You can indicate if a resource is overloaded for a specific week. The overload indicator has two settings: orange and red indicating if the overload is minor or major. The thresholds for these settings must be specified in the User Settings.

Tool Tip

When hovering over a utilization bar the actual numbers for the selected week and selected resource are shown:
  • Available : The total capacity available in hours
  • Planned : The total hours generated by planned orders
  • Created : The total hours generated by actual orders that are not yet released
  • Released : The total hours generated by actual orders that are on the production floor
  • Free : The total hours that are not yet allocated

Tool Tip Overload

If the selected week is overloaded the overload is shown as a negative number of free hours. The color of it depends on whether it is a minor (default: orange) or a major (default: red) overload.

Grid Selection

The grid displays orders based on the resources selected in the graph.

If no resources are selected in the graph, the grid is hidden.

If one or more lines are selected in the graph, all underlying orders on the timeline that use the resource are listed.

Grid Resource Location and Resource Type

When the machine hours are displayed following resource (capacities) are possible :

  • (production) site, resource (work center), resource capacity (machine capacity group)
  • (production) site, resource (work cell), resource capacity (work cell)
  • (production) site, resource (subcontractor, subcontractor site), resource capacity (reference operation)

When the labor hours are displayed following resource (capacities) are possible:

  • (production) site, resource (work center), resource capacity (work center)
  • (production) site, resource (work cell), resource capacity (work cell)

Grid Order Types

The following order types can appear in the grid:

  • Critical capacity requirement
  • CTP reservation
  • Planned production order
  • Planned production schedule
  • Production order
  • Production schedule
  • Work order
  • PCS activity

Gird Orders

The applicable order number operation, schedule line or activity.

In case of a CTP reservations or critical capacity requirement, order numbers are not applicable.

Grid Status

Depending on the status of the order, the load amounts to the “planned”, “created” or “released” capacity.

Grid Start

The start date / time of the applicable operation or activity.

Grid Load

The total load of the applicable operation or activity, expressed in hours.

Grid Column Filters

The primary selection is done when the graph is generated. You can filter the grid further by: (production) site, order type, status and start date.

Grid line selection

If you select a line in the grid, the impact on the capacity is shown in the graph. The load is shown in a proportional block in a contrasting color in the applicable week in the applicable capacity type.
