Capable-to-promise, an overview

Order-promising techniques are used to answer sales-related questions, such as:

  • Can you deliver 500 bags of item X by November 8th?
  • I need 100 units of item Y; how soon can they be delivered?
  • How much of item Z can you deliver before the end of the month?

LN offers a set of order-promising techniques known as capable-to-promise (CTP). CTP consists of functionality ranging from standard item ATP to advanced CTP techniques. These techniques allow you to sell your products based on the following types of information:

  • The available supply that is currently planned (ATP)
  • The available supply that can be promised by the available capacity of the product (capacity CTP)
  • The available supply that can be promised by the ATP of components linked to the product (component CTP)
  • The maximum volume that can be sold to a particular channel (cannel ATP)
  • Long-term order promising on a more general product-family level (family CTP)

In addition, LN supports CTP functionality for customized items.

Note: If multisite functionality is active, CTP and ATP calculations are performed per planning cluster. If the planning cluster is linked to several sites, the results of the CTP and ATP checks are performed across the cumulative supply of all sites linked to the planning cluster.
