Starting a warranty when pre-installation period starts
An automatic start of the warranty is required when the pre-installation period starts. Consider these scenarios:
- A product is delivered but not installed. The customer decides to install the product after a while and discovers that it needs to be repaired.
- A product is delivered and the customer installs the product, which is not registered in the application. The customer needs the product to be repaired after a while.
If the Warranty Duration Type field for a serialized item warranty is set to Combined Duration, the Warranty Start Determined By field is set to Defined Events. The start of the pre-installation period and the warranty is determined by events. These events can be started in two ways:
- Manually, using the Serialized Item Warranty (tscfg2650m000) session. option from the menu in the
- Automatically, by specifying an event set for the warranty template in the Warranty Template (tsctm0620m000) session or the Serialized Item Warranty (tscfg2650m000) session.
You can enable the automatic start of the warranty when the pre-installation warranty period is started by selecting the Start Warranty when Pre-Installation Period starts check box in the Warranty Template (tsctm0620m000) session. If you specify this warranty template for a serialized item, by default, the Start Warranty when Pre-Installation Period starts check box is selected in the Serialized Item Warranty (tscfg2650m000) session.
If the Pre-Installation Period End Date in the Serialized Item Warranty (tscfg2650m000) session is earlier than the Expiry Date in the Warranty Coverage Terms (tsctm1120m500) session, the Expiry Date of the warranty coverage terms is set to the Pre-Installation Period End Date.
Note: If the serialized item is installed via an event, the post-installation period warranty period is started.
