Inventory tracking unit

The inventory tracking unit (ITU) is the central object in the inventory tracking framework. Inventory tracking units are used to track items throughout inbound and outbound inventory movements.

.

An inventory tracking unit is a part of an inventory that has these attributes in common:

  • Item
  • Country of origin
  • The warehouse in which the items are stored
  • Ship-to and sold-to business partner, in case of direct deliveries.
  • The enterprise unit expressing the ownership of the items
  • Receipt line data

The required receipt line properties depend on the Global trade concepts and related parameter settings implemented in your organization. Currently, only the Country of Origin concept is supported.

An inventory tracking unit displays information about the quantities of the items for which the attributes mentioned above match. This information includes the received, available, and consumed quantities. However, quantities are not displayed for physical cost and service items. See Inventory tracking for physical cost and service items for further information.

The inventory tracking unit is linked to inventory tracking receipts that include the received quantities and to inventory tracking consumptions that include the consumed quantities of the inventory tracking unit. See Inventory tracking receipt and Inventory tracking consumption for further information.

Inventory tracking units are created or updated when inventory in put away in inventory in case of physical receipts. See Overview of the inventory tracking inbound and receipt processes for further information.

Inventory tracking units are updated with consumed quantities when items are issued from inventory or when items are removed because of adjustments after rejections during inspection or quarantine dispositions such as scrapping. See Inventory tracking consumption and Overview of the inventory tracking inbound and receipt processes for further information.

For direct deliveries, an inventory tracking unit is created to enable registering the quantities that the supplier has sent to the business partner. See Inventory tracking for direct deliveries for further information.
