Inbound inspection

Items that require inbound inspection may turn out to have a country of origin other than the one specified by the supplier, or may have multiple countries of origin.

The most efficient procedure is to specify the countries of origin for the items to be inspected before you specify the inspection results.

The countries of origin can be specified at these points during the inbound process:

  • Before the receipt is confirmed. See Receipt.
  • Before the inbound advice is put away to the inspection location, if inbound advice is applicable. See Inbound advice.
  • In the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2600m300) details session.

To change the country of origin for the items to be inspected, specify the appropriate country of origin in the Actual Country of Origin field in the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2100m300) session.

The inspection results specified in the Inspection Lines (whinh2131m000) session are updated to the inventory tracking receipt if the inspection results can be unambiguosly assigned to the inventory tracking receipts. This is the case if, for example, the inspection if fully approved, rejected, destroyed, or scrapped, or if there is only one country of origin.

If the inspection results cannot be unambiguosly assigned, you must create a separate inventory tracking receipt for each country of origin and adjust the inspection results in the inventory tracking receipt details for each country of origin.

To create multiple inventory tracking receipts, complete these steps:

  1. In the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2100m300) session, click Details.
  2. In the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2600m300) details session, select the inventory tracking receipt in the Receipts tab and click Split.
  3. In the Receipt Details for Inbound Advice from Receipt (tcitu2115m200) session, specify the new country of origin and the quantity of the items to which the new country of origin applies.
  4. Click Split and click Close. The newly split-off inventory tracking receipt is displayed in the Receipts tab of the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2600m300) details session.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to specify other countries of origin as needed.
  6. Specify inspection results in the Inspection Lines (whinh2131m000) session.
  7. Specify the approved, rejected, destroyed, or scrapped quantities for each country of origin in the Details tab of the Inbound Inspection (tcitu2600m300) details session.

For example, the inspection results are 50 approved and 10 rejected. 3 Rejected items have country of origin USA, and 7 rejected items have country of origin UK. These inventory tracking receipts are present:

    • 0001 country of origin USA, quantity 40
    • 0002 country of origin UK, quantity 20

Specify 37 approved and 3 rejected for 0001 country of origin USA

Specify 13 approved and 7 rejected for 0002 country of origin UK

  8. Process the inspection results in the Warehouse Inspection (whinh3622m000) session.
Note:
  • The Split and Move commands are only available if no inspection results have been specified yet for the inspection. Therefore, additional countries of origin must be added before specifying the inspection results.

  • The inspection results specified for the inspection line(s) are automatically updated to the related inventory tracking details. But this is not done the other way round.

The inspection results specified in the inventory tracking details are NOT updated back to the inspection line(s).

Therefore, you must only specify inspection results in the inventory tracking receipt details to manually align the inspection results with the inspection results specified for the inspection line.

If inbound advice after inspection is not applicable, the processed inspection results are updated to the inventory tracking unit, or an inventory tracking unit is created. See Create or update inventory tracking units in the receipt process for details.

If inbound advice after inspection applies, inbound advice to a pick or bulk location for the approved quantities is to be generated.

From the inbound advice you can start the Inbound Advice from Inspection (tcitu2100m400) session to adjust the country or countries of origin.

The Inbound Advice from Inspection (tcitu2100m400) session is operated in much the same way as the Inbound Advice from Receipt (tcitu2100m200) session. See Inbound advice for details.
