Use this session to define setup states and group them in classes. A setup is the preparation of a machine or tool for production. For example, a setup class can be COLOR and the setup states within it blue, red, green, and yellow. After you define all the possible states in a setup class, you can enter the setup times necessary to move from one state to the next.

You can also define dependency between setup classes. You use this to indicate to the application that the change of setup in the dependent class is included in the change of setup of the predominant class.

The setup times you define here are generic. You can indicate specific setup times for resources in the Resources component of the Production module. Operation-specific setups are listed in the Manufacturing Processes component of the Process module.

To optimize setup times, setup states defined within a class can be arranged in a gradation order (a preferred direction of change). The Scheduling Engine considers the gradation order when scheduling Production order operations.
