Managing neutral files of a variant with distinct documents
The Creo connector provides an option to link neutral files of a variant to respective documents in PLM. When a document is saved to PLM from Creo, for each variant, a separate document is created along with the generic document. The CAD files are linked to the generic document and the neutral files of the respective variants are linked to the variant documents.
This functionality enables you to modify or check out an individual variant and generate neutral files for the particular variant. The documents of other variants need not be checked out.
By default, for generic files with variants, the Creo file and the neutral files for generic and the related variants are linked to a single document in PLM.
However, if the Maintain neutral files under distinct documents for Variants check box is selected, the Creo connector can be linked with each variant of the neutral files to the corresponding document in PLM. When a Generic document is saved to PLM from Creo, a separate document is created for each variant in addition to the generic document.
The Generic CAD file (.prt or .asm) and the related neutral files are associated with the generic document, while the neutral files for each variant are linked to their respective variant documents.
This functionality enables you to modify or check out a specific variant and generate neutral files for it, without needing to check out documents for other variants.
Generic and instance documents are identified based on their application format type.
The application format is defined as PE Generic Part or PE Generic Assembly for generic components, and as PE Instance Part or PE Instance Assembly for instances.
