Product subcontracting - setup
You can use product subcontracting to subcontract an item's entire production process. If you apply product subcontracting, no production order is created.
To set up product subcontracting, you first define the general data such as these:
- The items that are to be subcontracted.
- The items to be used as materials that the subcontractors need to produce the items.
- The business partners that represent the subcontractors.
If the multisite concepts are activated, you also define the internal production sites and the subcontractor locations, that is, the subcontractor sites where the subcontracting activities are performed.
Next, you define the subcontracting models, which contain the data needed to subcontract specific items to specific subcontractors. In a subcontracting model, you specify details such as these:
- The subcontractor who is to manufacture a specific item.
- The materials that you send to the subcontractor to manufacture the item.
- The subcontractor warehouse to which to send the materials.
If the multisite concepts are activated, in the subcontracting model, you also specify the subcontractor location at which the item is to be manufactured and the internal production site where the completed subcontracted item is to be received.
In the current topic, the setup of the general data is described. The setup of the subcontracting models is described in To set up subcontracting models.
For product subcontracting, set up the following general data:
