Example
The entity relationship between an order and an order line is a 1:N relationship. An order is related to one or more order lines. Vice versa, an order line is related to only one order. In this entity relationship the order is the first entity type.

The second entity type in the entity-type relationship.
Example
The entity-type relationship between an order and an order line is a 1:N relationship. An order has one or more order lines. Vice versa, an order line is related to only one order. In this entity-type relationship the order line is the second entity type.

- Description From - To

The description that identifies the from-to relationship. The description must be a verb in the third person singular.
Example
An order is detailed by one or more order lines. For this relationship the From-To description is: is detailed by.
- if the relationship is a horizontal line with the name located above, then the diagram should be read from left to right. If the name is located underneath, then the diagram should be read from right to left.
- if the relationship is a vertical line with the name located on the left, then the diagram should be read from top to bottom. If the name is on the right, then the diagram is read from the bottom up.
- Description To - From

The description that identifies the to-from relationship. The description must be a verb in the third person singular.
Example
An order line details an order. For this relationship, the To-From description is: details.
- if the relationship is a horizontal line with the name located above, then the diagram should be read from left to right. If the name is located underneath, the diagram should be read from right to left.
- if the relationship is a vertical line with the name located on the left, then the diagram should be read from top to bottom. If the name is on the right, then the diagram is read from the bottom up.
