Work Centers (tirou0101m000)

Use this session to list work centers. Work center data is used for cost estimating and for planning purposes.

To manage work centers you can:

  • Use the Work Center (tirou0601m000) session if the Job Shop by Site parameter is Active in the Concept Activation (tcemm4600m000) session.
  • Use the Work Center (tirou0101s000) session if the Job Shop by Site parameter is Inactive in the Concept Activation (tcemm4600m000) session.
Note:

You cannot delete a work center if:

  • The work center is still active in LN.

Field Information

Work Center Type

The work center type.

Allowed values

Work Center

A regular work center that defines an area, typically bounded by yellow lines, where job shop operations are done and machines are present.

Sub Work Center
Note: If the value Job Shop by Site parameter is Active in the Implemented Software Components (tccom0100s000) session, this option is not available.

A work center that belongs to a higher-level work center in order to review aggregated capacity.

Subcontracting

If an operation must be subcontracted, a subcontracting work center must be defined. You cannot link operation-rate codes for this work-center type. However, you can record planning data by subcontracting work center, irrespective of the selected critical capacity type. If a work center is of the Subcontracting type, you cannot change the work-center type.

Costing

The work center is a costing work center.

Buffer

An assembly line work station where no operations are carried out, but orders wait pending transfer to the next work station.

Line Station

A work center that is part of an assembly line. A line station is used in the production of final assembly schedule items.

Work Cell

A grouping of one or more work stations in a fixed sequence defined in the Work Cells (tirpt0140m000) session, dedicated to repetitive manufacturing. Work cells are used for manufacturing items based on production models.

Work Center

The work center ID.

When you define a work center code, you must find out which work center influences the cost estimates of production orders.

The number of work centers need not match with the number of physical work centers in your organization, as not every physical work center has an impact on estimated costs.

In the Production Planning (tisfc0110m000) session, you can modify the planning by having an operation carried out at another work center. In that case, the resource units must be similar.

Note:
  • The work center cannot be deleted if used anywhere else in LN.
  • Before you can define a work center you must define a department in the Departments (tcmcs0565m000) session.
Production Department

production department

Subcontractor Independent

If this check box is selected, the work center, which is defined as Subcontracting, has no linked subcontractor.

Note: This check box allows users to model scenarios and define master data for production of items with subcontracted tasks or parts, while the subcontractor is yet to be determined.

Subcontractor

The subcontractor, if the Work Center Type field is Subcontracting.

Note: You cannot specify this field if the SubcontractorIndependent check box is selected in the Work Centers (tirou0101m000) session.

Site

The site ID.

Note: Only visible if multisite functionality is active.

Actual Calendar

The calendar and availability type combination that is used by the work center manufacturing a production order.

Note:
  • If a work center calendar is specified, the actual calendar equals the work center calendar. If no work center calendar is specified, the next applicable calendar is used such as that of the related production department.
  • You can see the level at which the actual calendar is defined in the Origin field.

Critical in Master Planning

Specify which capacity is critical when planning. The specified capacity is used by Enterprise Planning and Project Control network activities:

  • Enterprise Planning

Dependent on the value, Enterprise Planning uses labor capacity or machine capacity to express the capacity use in the resource master/order plan.
  • Project Control network activities

Dependent on the value, PCS network activities use labor capacity or machine capacity to calculate the value of the Aggregated Capacity Requirements field in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session and the Activity Overview by Project (tipcs4502m000) session.

In Order Planning ( the Resource Order Plan-Find (cprrp0530m000) session), both the Labor Capacity and Machine Capacity are available.

Note: JSC does not use this field because in JSC the capacity use is always expressed in terms of labor capacity and in terms of machine capacity.

Allowed values

Labor Capacity

Labor capacity is used in Enterprise Planning to express the capacity use of the resource master plan.

Machine Capacity

Machine capacity is used in Enterprise Planning to express the capacity use of the resource master plan.

Machine Capacity Groups

Number of Machines

The number of machines that are available for production on the work center.

Available Labor Resources

The number of operators that is available on the work center.

The number of machines and the number of operators that is defined for a work center are used to calculate the work center's available capacity.

Critical in Master Planning

Specify the capacity that will be used for Master Planning.

If the work center has no capacity groups, only Labor Capacity is used.

If the Resource Order Plan (cprrp0530m000) session is used, both labor and machine capacity are available.

Allowed values

Labor Capacity

Labor capacity is used in Enterprise Planning to express the capacity use of the resource master plan.

Machine Capacity

Machine capacity is used in Enterprise Planning to express the capacity use of the resource master plan.

Time Unit

The time unit in which Wait Time and Queue Time are expressed. The time unit of the sub-work-center can be the same as the time unit of its main work center.

If the time unit relates to the queue time, Days and Hours must be interpreted as days and hours in the working time calendar that is linked to the work center. If the time unit relates to the wait time, no calendar is used. The availability of time is considered as 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Allowed values

  • Hours

Lead times are expressed in hours and fractional values are allowed.
  • Days

Lead times are expressed in days and fractional values will be rounded to integer values.
Queue Time

queue time

The queue time is used in lead time calculation. The queue time is expressed in days or hours. The days or hours must be interpreted as days and hours in the working time calendar that is linked to the work center.

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

Wait Time

wait time

When LN calculates the start times and end times of planned orders based on the routing, LN considers the wait time. The wait time is expressed in days or hours. The days or hours do not relate to a calendar. The availability of time is considered as 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

The plan buffer created by the wait time enables you to build in a certain tolerance between successive operations, which makes it possible to shift operations in case planning must be adjusted.

Note: This field is not accessible if the Work Center Type field is Costing, Line Station or Buffer.

Move Time

move time

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

Desired Queue

Use rough PCS capacity requirement

In PCS network planning, the work center's capacity can be consumed by:

  • PCS rough capacity, which is defined in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session
  • Capacity required for JSC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning .

This check box determines how the work center's capacity is consumed:

  • If this check box is selected, the work center's available capacity is consumed by the capacity required for the JSC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning . The rough capacity requirements defined in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session are not taken into account.
  • If this check box is cleared, the PCS rough capacity defined for activities in PCS, and the capacity required for JSC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning are subtracted from the work center's available capacity. Therefore, double consumption of work center capacity occurs.

Print Instructions

If you use a microrouting, you can define instructions for production orders for each operation and for each operation step. If the value of this field is Yes, those instructions are printed.

You can only use Not Applicable as a value if the Work Center Type is Sub Work Center. Consequently, the sub-work-center inherits its main work center's value of the Print Instructions field.

Device for Printing Labels

Specify the device used to print labels.

Constraint Type

Specify the type of constrained type for the work center.

Allowed values

  • Time Fence
  • Plan Horizon
Constraint Time Fence
