Generic Item - Settings for Data Generation (tipcf3101m000)
Use this session to maintain data that determines how LN generates generic item data.
You can generically define the item data that is produced when you configure product variants. The item data can be generically compiled of fixed code elements or option values for product features. You can define data for the item fields item code, description, material, and so on.
You can control the eventual structure of the item code for a product variant by using constraints. You can also define the other item data generically.
If LN must generate an identifying item code, the Identifying Item Code check box in the Product Configuration Parameters (tipcf0100m000) session must be selected. If LN must use the generic item code supplemented with a sequence number, the check box must be cleared.
Field Information
- Item
-
The code of the generic item to which product features apply. A generic item is an item that exists in multiple product variants.
Note: The item code to be selected must be predefined in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session. - Item Field
-
The item field for which you define the settings for data generation. LN generates this item data when you configure product variants.
You can generically identify the item code that is produced when you configure product variants. The item code can be generically compiled of fixed code elements and/or option values for product features. By using constraints, you can control the eventual structure of the item code for a product variant. In the same way, you can define the other item data generically.
If LN cannot recognize the option description, the option value is automatically added to the option description. Product features must be enclosed by brackets ([...]) in text lines as well as text blocks, in the same way as in constraint expressions.
Allowed values
You can define data for the following fields in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session:
-
Item
- Material
- Size
- Standard
-
The item text.
The item text can be defined as a completely generic text. This text can be made up of individual text lines, option values for features and text blocks. In both individual text lines and text blocks, product features can be entered as variables. The product configurator or product generator then automatically substitutes these variables for the description of the chosen option value.
Enter the < sign on the first position of each text line when the text is exclusively for internal use. Enter > when text lines must be printed exclusively on external documents.
- Item Group
- Weight
- Product Type
- Product Class
- Product Line
- Selection Code
- Item Signal
You can also define data for the following field in the Items - Sales (tdisa0501m000) session:
- Sales Statistics Group
-
- Sequence Number
-
By default, LN shows last used number plus 10; thus in the sequence of 10, 20, 30 and so on. The coding system used for generic items is free. However, you should adopt these default values because intermediate numbers are important when you add generic item data, such as inserting 15 between the preexisting values of 10 and 20.
- Language
-
The language code for recording item text. Select the language code by zooming to the Software Languages (ttaad1510m000) session.
- Text Line
-
The number of the text line for recording a item text.
- From Position
-
Enter the first position of the item data that you want to define as a generic item.
- To Position
-
The end position of the generic item field.
- Description
-
The description that must appear on the indicated positions in the generic item field during the configuration of product variants. It is identified by an alphanumeric code or by a text. If you fill in the fixed description, you can no longer fill in the feature field and vice versa.
There are two ways to generate generic item data:
- With this fixed description.
- With the feature options for the product variant.
Generating a fixed description for item data can be made dependent on the choice of feature options for the product variant. You can also fill in the constraint identification code, if necessary.
- Product Feature
-
You can only fill in a product feature as a parameter for generic item data if the Description field has been left empty. The product feature to be entered must be predefined in the Product Feature (tipcf0150m000) session.
Generating a variable description for an item field can be made dependent on the choice of feature options for the product variant. You can also fill the Constraint ID field if necessary.
- Text Block
-
If this check box is selected, a text block is present as a part of the generic item text block. You can display or maintain this text block by clicking the cursor in the field, or clicking the text manager button.
If this check box is cleared, no text block is present as a part of the generic item text.
- Constraint ID
-
The constraint code to be entered must be predefined in the Configurable Item - Constraint IDs (tipcf2101m000) session. You must only enter a constraint code when this code is also recorded in the Configurable Item - Constraints (tipcf2110m000) session.
If you activate the Configurable Item - Constraints (tipcf2110m000) session, you can then directly define constraints by generic item. When you do so, LN asks you to create a new constraint code, if it was not entered previously.
With the Parameter Substitution section of the constraint, you can record under which conditions the generic item data must be included in the specific item data of the product variant.
