Production Bill of Material Line Details (timfc3610m000)

Use this session to manage line details for production bills of material.

In this session data from the following sessions is displayed:

  • Production Bill of Material Alternative Materials (timfc3120m000)
  • Production Bill of Material Reference Designators (timfc3130m000)
  • Exceptions (tcuef0105m000)
Note:
  • For the production bill of material that originates from Product Lifecycle Management (PLM):
    • You can add or delete the materials for the production bill of material only if the Manual Add/Delete Material Line check box is selected in the Production Bill of Material Control (timfc3199m000) session.
    • You can add or delete the alternative materials for the production bill of material line (Alternate Materials tab) only if the Manual Add/Delete Alternative Material check box is selected in the Production Bill of Material Control (timfc3199m000) session.
    • You can add or delete the reference designators for the production bill of material line (Reference Designators tab) only if the Manual Add/Delete Reference Designator check box is selected in the Production Bill of Material Control (timfc3199m000) session.
  • LN allows you to modify a field on the material line, alternative material line or a reference designator line of a production bill of material with a status of New only if:
  • The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is not the origin of the production bill of material.
  • You can manually modify the PLM Controlled fields based on the settings defined in the Production Bill of Material Control (timfc3199m000) session.
  • The field is not controlled by PLM based on the template defined in the Production Bill of Material Control (timfc3199m000) session.

Field Information

Product

The product for which you require to manage the bill of material (BOM) line details.

Revision

The bill of material revision.

Status

The status of the production bill of material.

Allowed values

  • New
  • Approved
  • Expired
Position

The line's position number.

Default value

By default, the last position number used is shown, plus 10. This procedure provides the sequence 10, 20, 30, and so on. The numbering of positions is unrestricted. For best results, you must use the default values so you can use intermediate numbers to insert material lines.

Item

The material for which the bill of material line is generated.

Note:

You cannot specify:

  • Kits
  • Costs
  • Services
  • Other non-physical items
Net Quantity

The amount of a component item used in the manufactured product.

To calculate this amount, multiply the number of units by the value in the Length field and the value in the Width field.

Net quantity can only calculated if the inventory unit is length or area. If the inventory unit is pieces the calculation cannot be performed.

For example, if you specify ten units of a component that is 2 cm long and 3 cm wide, the net quantity is 60 (10*2*3). If the width is not specified, the net quantity is 20.

Note:
  • If a negative quantity is shown, the production of a manufactured product results in a by-product. This by-product is entered in the bill of material with a negative quantity, which is used to calculate the gross material requirement.
  • If the P-BOM lines are quantity independent, this field displays a zero.
  • This value is defaulted from the Net Quantity in BOM Unit field, if the Use BOM Units check box is selected.
BOM Unit

The unit in which the related Net and Scrap quantities are expressed.

Note: This field is enabled only if:
  • This field is enabled only if:
    • The BOM Units of Material Lines check box is selected in the Product Engineering Parameters (timfc0100m000) session.
    • The Status of the Production Bill of Material is set to New.
  • This field is enabled and mandatory if the Use BOM Units check box is selected in the Production Bills of Material (timfc3100m000) session.
  • If the Use Bom Units check box is selected, the value specified for the BOM Unit is defaulted to the value of the item unit.
Net Quantity in BOM Unit

The net quantity expressed in BOM unit. To use a BOM unit other than the item unit, an approved conversion factor must be defined. If the item unit is different from the BOM unit, the net quantity in item unit is calculated based on the approved conversion factor.

Note: This field is enabled only if:
  • The BOM Units of Material Lines check box is selected in the Product Engineering Parameters (timfc0100m000) session.
  • The Use BOM Units check box is selected in the Production Bills of Material (timfc3100m000) session.
  • The Status of the Production Bill of Material is set to New.
Scrap Percentage

In the BOM, you can define scrap as a percentage of the net material requirements, which is the scrap factor, and as a fixed quantity, which is the scrap quantity.

A scrap percentage is the expected material loss, for example because of faulty components. A percentage of 5 means 5 out of 100 components is expected to be faulty. LN will plan for more (100/95 times net quantity) to prevent a shortage.

Scrap Quantity

You can define scrap as a percentage of the net material requirements, which is the scrap percentage, and as a fixed quantity, which is the scrap quantity. A scrap quantity is mostly used to define the amount of material that is lost every time when you start producing, for example, to test the equipment.

Note:
  • This value is defaulted from the Scrap Quantity in BOM Unit field, if the Use BOM Units check box is selected.

Scrap Quantity

The scrap quantity in BOM unit.

Size Unit

The unit of measurement for Length and Width.

Length

You can calculate the net quantity of the item, if the inventory unit is a length or an area unit. In case of area unit, this field is used in combination with the Width field.

The Length, Width, Size Unit and Number of Units fields apply only if the material has length or an area inventory unit, like meter and square meter. The inventory unit is defined in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session.

Width

This field is used together with the Length field to calculate the net quantity, if the material quantity is calculated using the area units.

Number of Units

The number of times that the required quantity of the material, specified in the Length field and/or the Width field, appears in the product.

Percentage Required

The percentage of raw material that must be available before the operation can be started.

Replaces Item

If this check box is selected, the selected item is a use up material.

A material from the previous bill of material (BOM) revision, which is now a use-up material. As long as inventory is present this will be used instead of the material item itself.

Allow Multiple Items

If this check box is selected, LN can distribute the net quantity of the material over multiple items. For example, the net quantity can be divided over the use-up material and the standard material or over the standard material and one or more alternative materials. If this check box is cleared, LN issues only a single item for this BOM line for one production order.

For examples, refer to Searching for alternative materials.

Standard Configuration

If this check box is selected, the BOM line is part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the BOM line are included in the standard cost. If the Standard Configuration check box is cleared, the BOM line is not part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the BOM line are not included in the standard cost.

The Standard Configuration check box in combination with the setting of the Valid check box in the Exceptions (tcuef0105m000) session indicates whether an BOM line is used for a specific effectivity unit.

  • If the Standard Configuration check box is selected, and the Valid check box is cleared for an exception linked to the BOM line, the BOM line will be omitted for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
  • If the Standard Configuration check box is cleared, and the Valid check box is selected for an exception linked to the BOM line, the BOM line will be added for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
Note: If the BOM line has exceptions attached, but you do not want to use the exceptions, for example, for selling spare parts, or for an end item which is not unit-effective, then you can clear this check box.

Inherit Demand Peg

If a production order is transferred from Enterprise Planning to Job Shop Control , the order can have a demand peg.

Note: A specification is generated for the peg.

You can use this field to determine whether the material must have this demand peg as well.

Phantom

If this check box is selected, the item is a transient subassembly, built within the production order of the end product. The bill of material (BOM) components of this subassembly are issued for the production order.

Note:
  • If the component item is a phantom, you cannot define alternative materials.

Performance aspects

The setting of this field could affect system performance and database growth. For more information, refer to Phantoms.

Link with EDM

If this check box is selected, the engineering bill of material line was copied to the production bill of material.
