Dimensions (tfgld0510m000)

Use this session to list the dimensions of a dimension type.

For each dimension type, you can define dimensions and link them to parent dimensions and child dimensions.

For every dimension type, you can define one dimension with an empty dimension code. If the dimension type is Optional for a ledger account, LN posts transactions for which no dimension is specified to this dimension. In this way, differences between the ledger history and the dimension history can be avoided.

You must define a structure for dimensions. The dimension structure works with sublevels and parent-child relationships similar to the chart of accounts structure.

From the appropriate menu, you can select View Tree to display a graphical view of the dimension structure. If you select a dimension, LN displays the structure of the dimension. Else, LN displays all dimensions.

To support dimension mapping in the integration mapping scheme, you can import the codes of various entities and properties defined in the Tables module of Common to create the dimensions. For example, for the Total Items dimension type, you can import the item groups, which results in the addition of as many dimensions as item groups, and with the item group codes.

If you import departments, enterprise units, or warehouses, LN only imports the departments, enterprise units, or warehouses that are linked to the financial company in which you are working.

To import the dimensions from the Tables module:

  1. Display the dimension type to which you want to add the dimensions.
  2. From the appropriate menu, select Import Dimensions.

The Import Dimensions (tfgld0210m000) session is displayed.

  3. Specify a selection range, and then click Import.

LN adds the codes of the selected entity to the dimension type.

To remove ranges of the generated dimensions, from the Edit menu, select Delete a range of records. Next, select the first and the last record of the range. LN asks you to confirm that you want to delete the range of records. Dimensions that are already in use cannot be deleted.

Field Information

Dimension Type

You can select a dimension type to which you want to link a dimension.

Dimension Description

The dimension type's description.

Dimension

The dimension

The code of the dimension for which you want to define the data.

Dimension Description

The description of the dimension.

Search Key

A search key allows you to rapidly search for the element in LN.

Text

If this check box is selected, a text is present.

Sublevel

The sublevel of a dimension.

Allowed values

  • You cannot change the sublevel of existing dimensions once a transaction is posted.
  • Parent dimensions that have child dimensions cannot be set to sublevel zero.

Parent Dimension

The parent-dimension codes can define a dimension structure so that data from the underlying dimension codes can be aggregated and broken down, if required.

Allowed values

You can only select dimensions with a sublevel that is higher than zero. Remember that no looping takes place by linking a parent dimension to a child dimension in the same hierarchy. A maximum of nine levels of child dimensions can be defined for the highest dimension.

Parent Dimension

The description of the parent dimension.

Dimension Type

The account type determines whether the dimension is used:

  • For normal transactions
  • To display text
Person Responsible

The employee code of the person responsible for the results in the dimension.

You can sort the printed report on the basis of the employee.

Name

The name of the employee.

Print Sequence

Define the sequence in which the dimensions must be printed in the dimension statements.

If you do not enter a value in this field, LN includes the dimensions in alphabetical code sequence, sorting first by figures and then by letters.

Example

The following dimensions have been defined:

  • AA100
  • CG001
  • 010HJ
  • 1500
  • 99000
  • AA100
  • CG001

This will be printed as follows on the trial balance:

  • 0100
  • 010HJ
  • 1500
  • 99000
  • AA100
  • CG001
Status

The blocking status specifies if the dimension code is blocked against the entry of transactions manually, automatically, or both.

Set the blocking period in the following fields:

  • Blocking Effective From
  • Blocking Effective To
Note: You can only block dimensions with sublevel zero.
Blocking Effective From

The start date of the blocking status.

Blocking Effective To

The end date of the blocking status.

Display Unit 1

If this check box is selected, quantities of the related unit entered in the ledger account also apply to the dimension.

Display Unit 2

If this check box is selected, quantities of the related unit entered in the ledger account will also apply to the dimension.
