Address Jurisdiction Verification Utility (tctax6210m000)
Use this session to verify that the address data is associated with the correct GEO code and in this way, with the correct tax jurisdiction. The tax provider uses this information. You can specify a range of addresses.
You can run this session:
- For periodic verification of the addresses
- If you implement a tax provider, to verify the addresses and to associate tax jurisdictions with existing addresses.
The utility processes only the addresses of the Vertex-enabled countries that belong to the tax country set specified in the Country Set (tccom1680m000) session.
Address data format
The address data must be in the correct format to be used by the tax provider. To convert address data to the required format, use the Update Address Formats (tccom4235m000) session.
Updating the database
If you clear the Simulation check box, the application updates the addresses' GEO codes. If you use Vertex O Series, all updated addresses are set to be inside city limits, by default.
If you select the Simulation check box, the application only prints the report of possible changes and errors.
GEO code verification process
- The tax provider validates the tax jurisdiction that is associated with each address, based on the address's city, state/province, and ZIP/postal code.
- The tax provider returns the GEO code that identifies the jurisdiction.
- The application compares the returned GEO code with the address's current GEO code.
GEO code verification results
- If the GEO codes differ, the application changes the address's GEO code into the returned GEO code.
- If the tax provider returns more than one GEO code and the address's GEO code is not included, the application changes the address's GEO code into the first returned GEO code.
- If the address information does not correspond to a valid jurisdiction in the tax provider, the tax provider cannot return a GEO code. The application does not change the address data, and prints an error message.
