Networks (ecedi0120s000)
Use this session to define networks.
You can define:
- Reference data
- The characteristics of the ASCII files.
Field Information
- Network
- Description
-
The description or name of the code.
- Path
-
The directory where all EDI data related to this network is stored.
Default value
The value entered in the Standard Path field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
Note: If you have more than one ERP company that will be used for external EDI, you must create unique directories for each company. - Our Identification
-
Your own network address. This can be a unique code that you use to represent yourself to your EDI business partners (internal and external).
Default value
The value of the Our Identification field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
- General Reference
-
References for outgoing messages can be recorded by network or as general references. If this check box is selected, the references for outgoing messages are based on the parameters in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session. If this check box is cleared, the references for outgoing messages are based on the field settings in the Networks (ecedi0120s000) session.
- Fixed Part
- Date Format
- First Free Number
- Action on First Message on New Date
- Fixed Part
-
The fixed part of your reference number, if the General Reference check box is not selected.
Default value
The value of the Fixed Part field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
- Date Format
-
The date format used as part of the reference number, if the General Reference check box is not selected.
Default value
The value of the Date Format field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
Note: When you select the date format, remember that the reference number consists of 14 positions. - First Free Number
-
If the General Reference check box is not selected, this is the first free number used in the reference number of the next outgoing message.
Default value
The value of the First Free Number field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
Note: You can manually adjust the first free number. - Action on First Message on New Date
-
If the General Reference check box is not selected, choose how to increment sequence numbers.
Default value
The value of the Action on First Message on New Date field in the EDI Parameters (ecedi0100s000) session.
- Multicompany
-
If this check box is selected, this network will be used for internal communication between different LN companies.
Note: Only business partners who have been designated for multicompany (those that have a specified multicompany affiliated company defined in the Business Partner (tccom4100s000) session can be combined with such a network. If this check box is cleared, this network will be used for communication with external EDI business partners. - Automatically Read in Generated Messages
-
If this check box is selected, a process for reading generated messages is automatically initiated in the company for which the messages are intended.
Note: This field pertains only to internal EDI. - Record Separator
-
Depending on the operating system on which LN EDI is implemented, each record (line) in the ASCII field ends with LF (linefeed) and CR (carriage return), or only with LF. Use LF when the CR is automatically used by the operating system.
- Field Type
-
ASCII files come in two basic formats. Your selection must be based on the data format expected by your external EDI conversion software.
- Separator Sign
-
The character to be used as a field separator for delimited fields.
Note: Your input can depend on your external EDI software. Frequently used field separators include the pipe (|) or, in some environments, the comma (,). - Sign Around Strings
-
The special sign that will enclose string fields in external EDI software. For example: "JOHNSON","ADDITIONAL TEXT". The fields are delimited by a comma and are enclosed by quotation marks.
Note: Your input can depend on your external EDI software. This is not a required field in LN EDI. - Replacement Sign
-
The separator sign that will be used to replace characters currently being used as field separators.
Note:Data in outgoing EDI messages cannot include characters that are identical to field separators. For example:
- The field separator is a comma (,).
- The substitute character is a semi-colon (;).
- The data is (Dear Sir,).
- The data in the outgoing message is (Dear Sir;).
- Replacement Sign
-
If a value is defined in the Sign Around Strings field, the separator sign that is used to replace characters that are currently used to enclose string fields.
Note:Data in outgoing EDI messages cannot include characters that are identical to characters that enclose strings. For example:
- The character surrounding strings (").
- The substitute character (').
- The data is (Note: item number is "355444").
- The data in the outgoing message is ("Note: item number is '355444'").
- Allow Leading Zeroes
-
If this check box is selected, the space in front of a number is filled with zeros. If this check box is cleared, the space in front of a number is filled with spaces.
Note: Some EDI conversion packages expect numeric fields to have leading zeros (only relevant with fields of a fixed length). Your choice in this field depends on the external EDI software. - Suppress Standard Communication
-
If this check box is selected, the standard communication procedure is suppressed, and the EDI semaphore logic used in external EDI processing is ignored.
Note: Make sure that the messages generated within this network are manually removed from the appl_from directory. The status of a generated message is not changed to Read by B.P. until all files associated with the message have been removed. Incoming messages must be manually placed in the appl_to directory. If this check box is cleared, the standard communication procedure of the external EDI communication software is carried out. - Generate Outgoing Message before Connection
-
If this check box is selected, the Direct Network Communication (ecedi7205m000) session generates outgoing messages before reading incoming messages.
If this check box is cleared, LN sends messages which are waiting to be sent to the network. It does not generate any outgoing messages.
- Inbound Parallel Processing Required
-
If this check box is selected, and a performance booster is active for the particular session, parallel bshells are used for incoming messages.
- Outbound Parallel Processing Required
-
If this check box is selected, and a performance booster is active for the particular session, parallel bshells are used for outgoing messages.
