Using progress result

Progress can be registered on various levels. The most detailed level is the cost object/control code level. For some resources, the exact progress is difficult to record. In such case, you can:

  • Use the Register Progress field in the Projects (tppdm6100m000) session to indicate the progress to be recorded on cost object/control code level for the current project. The possible options are:
    • Yes
    • No
    • Variance= Inventory (Only applicable for Material cost type)
  • Use the Register Progress check box in the Standard cost object sessions and Project cost object sessions to indicate if the progress must be recorded at the cost object /control code level for a specific cost object /control code.

The result based on a combination of field values:

List values in Projects
  Yes No
Yes Result 1 Result 1
No Result 1 Result 2
Variance = Inventory Result 1 Result 3

Result 1: The progress recorded on the cost object or control code is used in the project monitoring calculation (earned value) using this formula: Earned Value = Progress (%) * Budget cost and variance = Earned Value - Actual Cost

Result 2: You cannot register the progress based on the cost object or control code. As a result, in monitoring, you cannot determine the earned value for the progress using this formula: Earned Value = Actual Cost, result is variance = 0

Result 3: The progress recorded based on the cost object or control code is used in the calculation of monitoring. However, this progress is not used to calculate the variance. The cost incurred, but not consumed according to the progress, are regarded as inventory. As a result monitoring calculation is performed using this formula: Earned Value = Progress (%) * Budget cost and Inventory = Actual Cost - Earned Value

Note:
  • Result 2 and 3 only occur for work that is not finished. If the work for a project is finished, the calculation of result 1 is applicable.
  • Monitoring displays results only if you set the cost control levels in the Project - Cost Control Levels (tppdm6102m000) session to control code.
