Structure of a summarized BOM

The following example contains a summarized multilevel bill of material.

This example shows the purchased parts that are used in producing manufactured item A (= bicycle). The hub and spokes are used to make a wheel (a phantom item). This is not shown in a summarized BOM as it is in turn composed of other items, which are purchased parts.

If the purchased parts of the final product are known, you can determine the material requirements for making the other components of the final product.

The following example contains a Where - Used summarized multilevel bill of material.

Item: Spoke
Manufactured Item Description Quantity
M1 Lady's City Bike 60
M2 Tandem Tour Ladies Bike 60

For each component the total quantity is summed up in one line. It is not possible to see on which level(s) in the BOM the item is used.
