Viewing Assembly Part Shortage

On the Specific menu, click Check Inventory to zoom to the Check Inventory (tiasc2240m000) session to create a list of shortages. This list is based on the planned inventory stock, in Enterprise Planning. This list is further determined by the requirement dates, assembly lines and assembly parts you select. LN always limits the check to critical assembly parts. Refer to the Item - Production (tiipd0101m000) session for items that are critical. Double-click an item, and click the Methods tab to view the Critical for Inventory field.

If you create a shortage list, but there was already a list, the existing list is refreshed and updated. This means that:

  • Assembly part shortages with a requirement date in the past are deleted from the existing list.
  • The quantities are updated.
  • For new combinations of requirement date and assembly part, new shortage quantities are added to the list.

Except for deleting shortages in the past, these operations are only carried out for the dates, parts, and assembly lines you specified. The Inventory Check Date field shows you when quantities were updated or created. Note that the specified assembly lines are not considered in the list, although they may have a vast influence on it.

The list of shortage quantities is displayed either by assembly part or requirement date, according to the selected view.

If you want to print the assembly part shortages, the Print Assembly Part Shortage (tiasc2440m000) session is activated. You can print a list of assembly part shortages and/or related orders.

Solving shortages

If assembly part shortages occur, you can block the orders that require these parts in the Assembly Part Shortage - Assembly Orders (tiasc2545m000) session

Of course, blocking orders does not solve the problem of assembly part shortages itself. You must look for the cause of these shortages and take appropriate action there. But if that is not possible now, blocking your orders is a method to ensure that the production process carries on, giving you time to solve the shortage problem. To solve the supply problem, you can, for example:

  • Ask your supplier to deliver the goods on time or earlier.
  • Run Enterprise Planning. If you have not run Enterprise Planning, then no purchase schedules or production orders are generated to remove the shortages.
  • Reschedule ASC orders.
  • Reschedule JSC orders that use the same parts. Perhaps a less important JSC order exists, that can be rescheduled to set assembly parts free.
