Defining Workflow Templates

The PLM workflow is the graphical representation of a business process. Specific types of business processes generally require similar workflows. Workflow templates are setup and used as a basis for individual business process workflows. Business process types, which are defined by the PLM administrator, are used to group together workflow templates for a similar purpose.

A new business process must be associated with a workflow template when it is created. The workflow for that specific business process can then be edited as required and objects can be attached to the steps and tasks.

Workflow templates are defined and maintained using the workflow template editor, which can be accessed by:

  • The administrator, using the PLM Administration Menu.
  • A PLM user with user role of Project Manager or higher.

Each workflow template consists of two sections:

  • The workflow template attributes, such as template ID, description, and business process type.
  • The flowchart that defines the route for any business process. It uses the template and details of the specific steps and tasks which must be performed as part of the business process.
