Defining default devices

You can specify default printers to print documents and reports created in various print and process sessions such as shipping documents, outbound advice, or picking lists.

If the print or process session is defined as an automatic activity of a warehousing procedure, LN automatically starts the specified default printer to print the documents while the procedure is carried out.

You can specify default printers in these sessions:

  • Activities by Inbound Order Line (whinh2114m000)
  • Activities by Outbound Order Line (whinh2124m000)
  • Activities by Procedure (whinh0106m000)
  • Warehouse - Storage Zones (whwmd3110s000)
  • Default Devices by User (whwmd1545m000)
  • Inventory Handling Parameters (whinh0100m000)

Activities by Procedure (whinh0106m000)

In this session, the default printer is specified in the Output Device field. The printing device selected in this field is used as the default value in the Output Device field in the Activities by Inbound Order Line (whinh2114m000) session and the Activities by Outbound Order Line (whinh2124m000) session.

In this session, the default printer is specified in the Output Device field.

Activities by Outbound Order Line (whinh2124m000)

In this session, the default printer is specified in the Output Device field.

Warehouse - Storage Zones (whwmd3110s000)

In this session, the default printer is specified in the Device field.

Default Devices by User (whwmd1545m000)

In this session, you can specify default printers for process sessions, print sessions, or reports for a user account.

To add a session for which to select a default output device, click the New icon and select the relevant session.

Inventory Handling Parameters (whinh0100m000)

In this session, the default printer is selected in the Device when no default is found field.

How the default printer is determined

The printer that is used to print a document for a process session or a print session is determined in this way:

  1. Is the Use Specific Device Selection check box selected in the Warehousing User Profiles (whwmd1140s000) session for the logged on user?

    If yes, no default printer is used. After clicking the print button in the relevant print session, you must select a printer from a dialog box.

    If no, step 2.

  2. Is a printer specified for the activity in the Activities by Inbound Order Line (whinh2114m000) session or the Activities by Outbound Order Line (whinh2124m000) session?

    If yes, this printer prints the documents.

    If no, step 3.

  3. Is a printer specified in the Warehouse - Storage Zones (whwmd3110s000) session for the zone of the staging location from which the goods are shipped?

    If yes, this printer prints the documents.

    If no, step 4.

  4. Is a default printer specified for the documents in the Default Devices by User (whwmd1545m000) session?

    If yes, this printer prints the documents.

    If no, step 5.

  5. Is a printer specified in the Inventory Handling Parameters (whinh0100m000) session?

    If yes, this printer prints the documents.

    If no, you must select a printer from a dialog box.

Note: 
  • You must clear the Use Specific Device Selection check box in the Warehousing User Profiles (whwmd1140s000) session for users to whom default printers are to be available.
  • The setting of the Apply User Defaults of Sessions during Automatic Processing check box in the Warehousing User Profiles (whwmd1140s000) session determines whether the settings specified by the user apply to the processes performed in the print and process sessions.
