Packaging Items (whwmd4505m000)

Use this session to view, add, or change packaging item data.

Packaging items can be used as packaging items and auxiliary packaging items for handling unit template nodes.

Note: If you have started this session by zooming, you can only find and select a record.

Field Information

Packaging Item

The code of the packaging item.

Package Type

The package type defines whether goods are packed in the packaging item, for example, in a box, or put on the packaging item, for example, on a pallet. This information enables LN to have accurate dimensions of goods that are packaged in this manner.

Internal

Goods are stored inside the package: for example, a box or carton. Because the goods are stored inside the package, the dimensions of the package represent the dimensions of the goods.

External

Goods are stored on the package: for example, a pallet. The dimensions of the package must be added to the dimensions of what is on the package.

Reusable

If this check box is selected, the item is reusable. Reusable packaging items can be used many times: for example, pallets and shipping containers.

These items can be returned to inventory when empty. In the Packaging Items by Business Partner (whwmd4107m000) session, you can track reusable packaging items entering and leaving the warehouse. Tracking reusable packaging items make it possible for packaging items to be received back from customers and sent back to suppliers.

In the Packaging Items by Business Partner (whwmd4107m000) session, the quantities of reusable packaging items shipped to and received from business partners are automatically updated during the receiving and shipping processes. When packaging items are sent in bulk back to a supplier, or conversely received from a customer, and are not processed through the receiving or shipping sessions, this session is used as the means to update the quantities.

From the appropriate menu, click Packaging Items by Business Partner to start the Packaging Items by Business Partner (whwmd4107m000) session.

If this check box is cleared, the item is not reusable. The packaging items are not tracked.

Accountable

If this check box is selected, LN records the transactions for a packaging item in a detailed manner. Also, you can build a shipping material account for a packaging item.

Default value

  • If the Reusable check box is selected, by default the Accountable check box is also selected.

  • If the Reusable check box is cleared, the Accountable check box is also cleared. You can select the check box if you want to maintain a detailed level log for the packaging item.

Note: The field is available if the Extended Packaging Item Registration check box is selected in the Warehouse Master Data Parameters (whwmd0100s000) session.

Shippable

If this check box is selected, the package is suitable for shipment without being repacked. For example, pallets are generally a shippable type of packaging.

If this check box is cleared, the package is not shippable in its present form. For example, a fragile package or many types of loose pieces cannot be shipped without first repackaging them.
