Convert (to) Lot Item (whltc1202m000)

Use this session to to convert an item in one of the following ways:

  • To convert a non-lot item to a lot item
  • To convert a lot item to a non-lot item
  • To convert a lot item of the Lot in Inventory type to a lot item of the Lot not in Inventory type or vice versa.

To convert a non-lot item to a lot item

Type of lot control

If you convert a non-lot item, you have two options:

  • Lot in Inventory

If you choose to convert to a Lot in Inventory type of lot item, the entire inventory on hand must be registered under one or more lot codes. You can manually define lot odes or let the system generate the lot codes.
  • Lot not in Inventory

If you convert to a Lot not in Inventory type of lot item, no lots need to be defined just yet. For this type of lot item, you must specify the Lot Entry During Receipt and Lot Entry During Transfer fields.

Outbound method

If the item's outbound method is By Location, the session puts all the inventory on hand into a single lot. In this case, you can specify a lot code in the Lot field or allow the system to generate a lot code.

If the item's outbound method is LIFO or FIFO and you choose to convert to a Lot in Inventory type of lot control, the inventory must be split over multiple lots. Each lot corresponds with a particular inventory date. You can let the system generate lot codes or you can define the lot codes manually.

For information about the outbound method, refer to the Outbound Method field in the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4600m000) session .

Manual definition of lots

If the item's outbound method is LIFO or FIFO and you choose the Lot in Inventory type of lot control, you can manually enter the lot codes.

To define lots manually, take the following steps:

  1. Select the Define Lot Codes Manually check box.
  2. Click Pre-Convert. For each lot that must be defined, LN inserts a record with an empty Lot field in the Lots by Lot Date (whltc1106m000) session.
  3. Click Define Lots, to start the Lots by Lot Date (whltc1106m000) session.
  4. For each available inventory date, you must enter your own lot codes or generate lot codes and validate, as described in Lots by Lot Date (whltc1106m000).
  5. Save and close
  6. Select the Validated check box.
  7. Click Convert.

Lot tracking

If you select the Lot Tracking check box, the conversion process sets the Lot Tracking field in the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4600m000) session, to enable lot tracking.

To convert a lot item to a non-lot item

If you convert a lot item to a non-lot item, LN removes all lot data.

You cannot convert a lot item to a non-lot item if:

  • Cycle-count order-lines exist for the item. See the Cycle Counting Order Lines (whinh5101m000) session.
  • Inventory is blocked in the Stock Point Inventory (whinr1540m000) session.
  • The inventory valuation method is Lot Price (Lot). See the Inventory Valuation Methods (whina1100m000) session.
  • The item warehouse status is Tentative. See the Item Data by Warehouse (whwmd2510m000) session.
  • The specific lot or the same lot of the item is still used in the estimated materials of production orders. See the Production Planning (tisfc0110m000) session.
  • Effectivity units are used and inventory is on order, allocated, blocked, or blocked for planning.

To convert a lot item to a non-lot item, take the following steps:

  1. Enter the item in the Item field.
  2. Under To, select Not Lot Controlled.
  3. Click Convert.
Note: If you convert a lot item to a non-lot item, the session deletes any effectivity units related to the lot.

To convert between Lot in Inventory and Lot not in Inventory

To convert a lot item from one type of lot control to another, take the following steps:

  1. Enter the item in the Item field.
  2. Under To, select the type of lot control you desire.
  3. Click Convert.
Note: If you convert a lot item of the Lot not in Inventory type to the Lot in Inventory type, LN deletes the item's lot distribution data and inserts a new lot code in the relevant receipt lines, outbound advice lines and shipment lines. As a result, you lose the old lot distribution data.
