To use a PCS project

This topic provides an outline on how to create a PCS project for an item of an element/activity budget line or a PRP warehouse order.

A PCS project is created if:

  • A configured to-order item needs customization for an element or activity budget line.
  • A standard manufactured to-order item needs customization for an element or activity budget line or a PRP warehouse order.
  • A generic to-order item needs both configuration and customization for a PRP warehouse order.

Here, configure means to create a specified item from a generic item combined with various options per product feature. You can configure with the manufacturing (ti) product configurator (PCF) or the configurator of the (CF) package.

Here, customize means to generate a project-specific product structure. To customize an item, you can:

  • Take a standard item.
  • Take a configured item.
  • Copy a previous customer-specific item.
Note:

A fully engineered item starts at the manufacturing location with a PCS project that defines the item from scratch. Later on, you can link this PCS project to Project. You can configure and/or customized the to-order item in the following sessions:

  • Element Budget (Material) (tpptc1110s000)
  • Activity Budget (Material) (tpptc2110m000)
  • Planned PRP Warehouse Order (tppss6115m000)

You can customize a budget line item in the following way:

  • Click the Customize button and create a new project, or add the customized item to a free PCS project or a PCS project that is linked to the project with which you work. A filter is applied to display the PCS projects relevant to these conditions and specific PCS conditions.
  • Whether you choose to make a new PCS project or add to an existing PCS project, the items, the bill of material, and the routing are copied.
  • You can now calculate the actual cost.
Note: For the PRP warehouse-order item, the configured and customized item are generated at the same time. The configured item is not saved if you cancel a PCS project selection.
