Location Segment and Segment (tffam5100m000)

Use this session to define the segment code, description, and segment default for each location segment. Each location segment has valid values, which you define, called segment codes. A location segment tracks a specific kind of information about an asset's physical location.

Each location segment contains valid values called segment codes. When you enter assets in LN, you select a segment code for each segment in the location format. For example, for the location segment STATE, you can define segment codes using two characters for each state in which your organization maintains assets. When you enter an asset that is located in California, you select the segment code CA for the segment STATE.

Each location segment has one default segment code, although you can define as many segment codes for each segment as needed.

The first segment code you add is used as default. You can change the default by using the Sets Default Segment Code command of the Specific menu.

Note: You must define the location segment and code before it can be used in the Define Location Format (tffam5210m000) session.

Field Information

Location Segment

A segment is a unique identifier that tracks specific kind of information about an asset's physical location. Location segments contain codes that you can choose from to indicate the location of the asset. You can select up to eight location segments to define the location format.

Segment

A valid value that identifies the location segment. For example, for the location segment STATE, you might want to define segment codes using two characters for each state in which your organization maintains assets. When you enter an asset that is located in California, you would select the segment code CA for the segment STATE. Every location segment must have a segment code.

Default value

You must set one of the segment codes as the default before exiting the session.

Note: You cannot edit the label for a location segment that has been assigned to an asset in LN.
Default

Identifies a segment code as the default for the location segment. The first segment code you add is automatically identified by LN as the default segment code. You can select a different default segment code by using the Set As Default Segment Code command of the Specific menu. Only one default is allowed.
