Implementing FMEA

  1. In the FMEA Generation Structure (qmpqm1100m000) session, you must link a system to a specified system, or a subsystem, and a fault. Note: You can specify either a system, a subsystem or both. You must specify a fault.

In the FMEA Generation Structure (qmpqm1100m000) session, you must link a system to a specified system, or a subsystem, and a fault. Note: You can specify either a system, a subsystem or both. You must specify a fault.

Click Generate to generate the FMEA number for the specified structure. However, if the Generated check box is selected, a FMEA number already exists for the structure.

Note: Click Browse to view all the FMEAs generated for a fault associated with a structure.

  2. In the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (qmpqm1620m000) session, for the FMEA number, specify:

In the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (qmpqm1620m000) session, for the FMEA number, specify:

    • The description of the failure.
    • The module against which the faults are being analyzed. You can also link an item to the module. Specify the potential failure mode and effects of the failure.
    • On the Failure Resolution tab, specify the causes that can be attributed to the failure. Specify the occurrence code, detection code and the severity ranking for the fault. The application calculates the Risk Priority Number(RPN) based on the values specified.
    • From the Actions menu, set the status of the FMEA to In Progress.
    • Click on the failure resolution line to access the Failure Resolution (qmpqm1140m100) session.
  3. In the Failure Resolution (qmpqm1140m100) session:

In the Failure Resolution (qmpqm1140m100) session:

    • If an action must be executed, specify a description in the Recommended Action field. You must specify the values for the new severity, occurrence, and detection rankings. The application calculates the new RPN for the action taken.
    • If no action is required, you must specify the same values in the New Rankings fields as specified in the Current Rankings fields.

Note: If a new resolution is specified, enter a description in the Current Controls, Recommended Actions, Potential Causes and Action Taken fields, .

  4. In the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (qmpqm1620m000) session:

In the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (qmpqm1620m000) session:

    • In the Failure Resolution tab, set the status of the Action Taken field on the Resolution lines to Accepted or Not Accepted. Note: It is recommended that you Accept the Failure Resolution line for which a new failure resolution is specified and the RPN value is reduced.
    • Set the status of the FMEA to Closed. Note: You cannot Close the FMEA if any of the failure resolution lines have the status Pending.
  5. In the Delete Failure Modes and Effects Analysis Reports (qmpqm1220m000) session, you can move the FMEA with the status Close/Cancelled to history by deleting the specified records.

In the Delete Failure Modes and Effects Analysis Reports (qmpqm1220m000) session, you can move the FMEA with the status Close/Cancelled to history by deleting the specified records.

Note: If you use the Enterprise Modeler Content Pack with LN, consider using the MQM0060 (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)) wizard to set up FMEA. You can execute this predefined wizard from the Wizards by Project Model (tgwzr4502m000) session after you specified the business function model for your company.
