Objects

Objects are the basic data components of the PLM system. The object types are documents, items, and folders. In Infor PLM Discrete, all the work is organized within the projects. Objects such as documents and items are associated with specific projects, and users involved in the project are authorized as project users.

Individual objects are identified and described using attributes. An attribute includes a unique object identifier and mandatory or optional attributes. For example, document attributes can include the document type and the page size.

The user interface of the Administration menu provides standard visual object maintenance facilities, with differences necessary for the different object types. It also includes additional functionality relevant to each object type. The standard object maintenance functions enable you to:

  • Add objects, which involves specifying a unique identifier and other attributes.
  • Create and modify object attributes and attribute groups.
  • Delete objects, attributes, and attribute groups.
