Vaults

Vaults are the servers in which the Work and Release Folders are created. The PLM Files are stored in the vault in specific folders. Vaults are defined in the Vaults (pdadm1510m000) session. You can define these vault types:

  • LN Server: The PLM Folders are stored in the Application Server and are created using the File Manager.
  • On Prem: Vault server is the remote windows server which is within the network of the customer.
  • S3: In MT environment, S3 Bucket contains the PLM Folders. This is the recommended vault for the cloud version of PLM.

Multiple vaults eliminate the requirement for transferring large CAD files in an organization's network. This ensures that users within a distributed engineering environment experience optimal response times for all files or document related activities including check in or check out, edit, and view.

The architecture is designed around distributed file servers (vaults), which are configured based on the geographical location of an organization's engineering sites. Files in each vault is periodically synchronized (replicated) at intervals defined by the PLM Administrator.

When logging in to PLM, you must select the vault on which you can work. The solution provides support for a variety of multisite scenarios including how to respond when a user attempts to perform an operation on a file that is not currently available within the local vault.
