Validate Domain Extension (ttext1401m000)
Use this session to verify whether you can safely remove a domain extension or safely diminish its length.
Session usage
To validate a domain extension:
- Specify the component name of the domain extension.
- Specify the range of packages, tables, and companies to search in.
- Specify the required parameters for the validation process. See the field help.
- Click .
Example
This example describes a situation when a validation may be necessary.
You have created a domain extension and you have run the Convert to Runtime Data Dictionary (ttadv5215m000) session. After this, table fields with this domain have been filled with text up to the new length of the domain extension.
For some reason, for example after a PMC uninstall, the domain extension is removed or its length is diminished.
You must now complete these steps:
- Run this
Validate Domain Extension (ttext1401m000)
session to print a report of all locations where the text would be truncated
if you performed a conversion to runtime.
Do not run the Convert to Runtime Data Dictionary (ttadv5215m000) session at this stage. If you run that session now, texts are automatically truncated and therefore important parts of texts are lost.
- The generated report shows index1 data that you can use to find the records with the fields with texts that are too long. You can now rewrite or shorten these texts.
- Run the Convert to Runtime Data Dictionary (ttadv5215m000) session.
- Domain Extension
-
The component name of the domain extension.
- Maximum occurrences per table
-
If this check box is selected, you can limit the number of times a field with text that is too long is displayed per table on the report.
- Maximum occurrences per table
-
The number of times a field with text that is too long is displayed per table on the report.
Example
You specified
3
in this field.Table
ppmmmxxx
contains 10 records where the domain field contains data that is too long.Only 3 fields are displayed for this table on the report.
This way the performance of the validation processes increases.
- Original domain length
-
The length of the domain if it was not extended in an extension.
- Actual domain length
-
The length that is currently active for the domain .
- Domain length of extension
-
The domain length that is defined in the domain extension.
- Check with length
-
Specify the domain length to validate. If the data in a field exceeds this length, the data is considered too long and the field is displayed in the report.
