Defining a job

To create a job, you must specify basic job data and link sessions and/or shell commands to the job. In the basic job data, you specify whether the job is periodical. For periodical jobs, you specify how the job will be scheduled.

To define a new job, complete these steps:

  1. Start a session that you want to include in the job, and enter the data in the regular way.
  2. Click Add to Job. The Add Session to Job (ttaad5102s000) session starts.
  3. In the Job field, zoom to the Job Data (ttaad5500m000) session.
  4. Click New. The Job Data (ttaad5100s000) details session starts, which you can use to create a new job for your session.
  5. Enter a job code and a job description.
  6. Specify when you want the job to run as described in the next section Scheduling a job.
  7. Click Save and close the Job Data (ttaad5100s000) session. You return to the Add Session to Job (ttaad5102s000) session. You can now add the session to the job as described in Adding a session to a job.

Scheduling a job

To schedule a job, complete one of the following steps in the Job Data (ttaad5100s000) details session:

  • To run the job at a specific time, clear the Use External Sched check box. You can enter the job's start date and time in the Next Execution Date fields.
  • To start the job yourself, run the Activate command in the Job Data (ttaad5500m000) session. For more information, refer to Running a job.
  • To run the job at regular intervals, select the Periodical check box in the Job Data (ttaad5100s000) details session. You must then either:

    • Define a calendar for the job. LN will run the job on the dates and times that you define in the job calendar. For more information, refer to Defining a job calendar.
    • Specify the period length. LN starts the job at the start of each period.

If you enter a date and time in the End of Period fields, LN will not start the job after this time.

Select the Use External Scheduler check box if you want to start the job in one of the following ways:

  • Through an external job scheduler such as Maestro from UNISON, or through an external program such as a UNIX crontab.
  • Through the rc.startjob shell command (UNIX platform)
  • Through the startjob.bat batch file (Windows platform)

For more information, refer to Job execution and Job handling procedure (OP).

Stopping the job after a specific time

To stop the job if it runs longer than a specific time, enter a value in the Maximum Duration field of the Job Data (ttaad5100s000) details session. If the maximum duration is reached, LN finishes running the current session, but does not start the next session.

Values up to 59 represent minutes. To represent values of more than one hour, enter the number of hours followed by the number of minutes, without a separator.

Example

  • To specify 30 minutes, enter 30.
  • To specify one hour, enter 100.
  • To specify one hour plus 30 minutes, enter 130.
