Order Controlled/Batch setup and order generation

The order controlled/batch supply system is applicable if:

  • Supply is triggered by process triggers from assembly, for example, start on a line segment, reporting completion, and so on. Supply is not done for each specific order, but instead the orders are batched.
  • You have fast movers, for example, multiple supply containers, each day.
  • You deal with high-volume parts.

Setup

To enable supply to a shop floor warehouse using the Order Controlled/Batch supply system, you must define the following master data in the Item Data by Warehouse (whwmd2110s000) session:

  • Supply System: Order Controlled/Batch.
  • If supply must take place from another warehouse, select the Supply from Warehouse check box and specify the supply warehouse.
  • If supply must take place from a supplier or a work center, clear the Supply from Warehouse check box. Whether the supply takes place from a work center or a supplier depends on the item type:

    • If the item type is Purchased, supply must take place from a supplier. A buy-from business partner and a ship-from business partner can be specified from which the supply must take place. If no buy-from business partner and ship-from business partner are specified, LN retrieves the item's default supplier from the Items - Purchase Business Partner (tdipu0110m000) session.
    • If the item type is Manufactured, supply must take place from a work center. LN retrieves the work center from the Job Shop Control module in Manufacturing.
    • If the item type is Product, the supply source of the item displayed in the Actual Supply Source field of the Items (tcibd0501m000) session determines from where supply takes place:

      • A business partner if the supply source is Purchase.
      • A work center if the supply source is:

        • Job Shop
        • Repetitive
        • Assembly
        • Distribution
  • Trigger-from Station

Specify the assembly line station or the work center that triggers the supply of the required materials.
Note:
  • If you use the Enterprise Modeler Content Pack with LN, consider using the MPL0040 (Order Controlled Batch Supply (OCB)) wizard to set up the supply of material using OCB. You can execute this predefined wizard from the Wizards by Project Model (tgwzr4502m000) session after you specified the business function model for your company.
  • You can select the Order Controlled/Single supply system only if the warehouse is of the type Normal or Shop Floor.

Order generation

When you use the Order Controlled/Batch supply system, supply orders are generated based on a trigger from the assembly line. In LN, you can specify that the supply of the goods required at a particular line station is started when a specific event happens at another (earlier) line station. A number of fixed assembly line events are defined by LN which can be used to trigger supply orders. You can indicate which supply orders must be triggered if one of those fixed events happens for an earlier line station.

The quantity to be supplied by a supply order is determined based on the requirements of several assembly orders. Because triggers are temporarily stored before the actual supply orders are generated, all triggers for the same items for the same warehouses are combined in one supply order, regardless of the assembly orders. As a result, the amount to be supplied is the sum of all the goods resulting from the triggers that are created before a particular supply order is created. The above also implies that the supply orders are anonymous, which in turn implies Order Controlled/Batch.
