Item - Package Definition - Packaging Level (whwmd4140s000)

Use this session to view or change the package definition levels for the selected item. In this session, you can adjust the general-level packaging levels for the item.

The information displayed in this session is created in the Item - Package Definitions (whwmd4130m000) session by inserting a package definition for an item.

You can enter a packaging unit for the item. If you enter a packaging item, it will be able to track the packaging items. The quantities of packaging items are registered per packing item using the Packaging Items by Business Partner (whwmd4107m000) session. If you enter a packaging item, some of the packaging data and the dimensions are derived from the item data as entered in the Package Definition Levels (whwmd4120s000).

If you enter no packaging item, you can manually enter the packaging data and dimensions.

This session shows the unit information for a level, such as the unit, the quantity per unit, and the conversion factor.

At level 1, the field Exists for Partial Quantity is selected and cannot be edited.

Field Information

Item

The item that is linked to the package definition.

Package Definition

The code of the package definition.

Level

The level numbers start at 1 for the lowest level and increase sequentially without gaps. Each higher level holds or contains the package unit that is at the preceding level.

For example, the lowest level can be pieces, the next level is a box that contains 10 pieces, and the highest level is a pallet that holds 20 boxes.

Example

  • level 1 pieces
  • evel 2 bx1 (box of 10 pieces)
  • level 3 pl1 (pallet of 20 bx1 = 200 pieces)
Unit

A unit of packaging in which an item can exist: for example, a piece, a box, or a pallet.

This unit serves as the package in which, or on which, an item is stored or handled. On the lowest level, this unit is the inventory unit for the item.

The unit must be in the item's unit set.

A unit can appear in only one package definition for each item.

Quantity

The number of packages of the previous level in the package definition that the current level can hold. The number is expressed in the unit of the previous level as specified in the Quantity field.

This number is calculated as follows:

Conversion factor of current level / Conversion factor of previous level

These amounts are both conversion factors to the inventory unit (base unit).

For level 1 the value for this field is 1.

For level 2 this value is equal to the conversion factor of the unit of that level.

Conversion Factor

The conversion factor to this level.

Packaging Item

The unit or package used in a package definition level can be associated to a packaging item.

The package levels that are associated with packaging items derive their dimensions from the packaging item and cannot be overridden. The external dimensions of other packages can be entered by the user.

Packaging items can be marked as reusable. When package levels are associated with packaging items that are reusable, the quantity of the packaging items received into and shipped out of the warehouse will be tracked for each business partner.

Location Type

The location type.

Receiving location

The location in which the received goods are placed while they await the generation of an inbound advice.

Pick location

The inventory location designated for order picking purposes. A pick location is mainly used for the outbound of small quantities and/or containers that can be replenished by bulk locations.

Bulk location

The location used mainly for large inbound quantities and/or containers and to indicate from which pick locations can be replenished.

Staging location

A shipping dock in the warehouse where items are held just before they are placed on any means of transport for shipment.

Inspection location

A type of inventory location exclusively designated to store items that are eligible for inspection upon receipt.

After the items have passed inspection, they are transferred to:

  • A normal location if they are approved.
  • A quarantine location if they are rejected.

Goods in an inspection location are always considered to be on-hold inventory.

Quarantine location

A type of warehouse location in which goods initially rejected during warehousing inspection or production are stored for further examination to determine their disposition.

Note: In locations of type Receiving, stock points are not supported.
Package Type

This field indicates if material is stored internally in package or externally on package. This information enables LN to have accurate dimensions of goods that are packaged in this manner.

Exists for Partial Quantity

This field indicates if the package exists for partial quantities when picking. For instance, when a box is picked from a pallet, the pallet still exists in the location with the remaining quantity. Therefore the pallet exists for partial quantities. However, for particular types of boxes, when pieces are picked from the box, the box is discarded and the remaining pieces should be represented as pieces. The box does not exist for partial quantities.

If this check box is selected, the package does exist for partial quantities.

Shippable

This field indicates whether or not a package is suitable for shipment without being repackaged.

If this check box is selected, this package is shippable (suitable for shipment.) For example, pallets are generally a shippable type of packaging.

If this check box is cleared, this package is not shippable in its present form. For example, a fragile package or many types of loose pieces cannot be shipped without first repackaging them.

Weight

The weight of the empty package expressed in the location weight unit of measure.

Length

The length of the package.

Length

The unit in which the length is measured.

Width

The width of the package.

Height

The height of the package expressed in the unit of measure.

Floor Space

The floor space which an item takes in. The floor space is equal to Length multiplied with Width of the Packaging Item. It is expressed and rounded in the Length.

Volume

The volume which an item takes in. The volume is equal to Length multiplied with Width multiplied with Height of the Packaging Item. It is expressed and rounded in the Length.
