Warehouse - Locations (whwmd3500m000)

Use this session to view and add locations.

You can also:

  • View the location's capacity data.
  • Copy location's ranges.
  • Set up zones.
  • Set up dock locations.
  • Make the location infinite.
Note: If you have started this session by zooming, you can only find and select a record.

Performance aspects

A limited number of staging and dock locations may affect system performance. For more information, refer to Number of staging locations.

Field Information

Warehouse

The code of the warehouse where the location is situated.

Location

The code that identifies an inventory location within a warehouse. For each warehouse, you can define many locations.

Search Key

search key

Storage Zone

The code of the zone to which the location belongs.

Location Type

The location type.

Receiving location

The location in which the received goods are placed while they await the generation of an inbound advice.

Pick location

The inventory location designated for order picking purposes. A pick location is mainly used for the outbound of small quantities and/or containers that can be replenished by bulk locations.

Bulk location

The location used mainly for large inbound quantities and/or containers and to indicate from which pick locations can be replenished.

Staging location

A shipping dock in the warehouse where items are held just before they are placed on any means of transport for shipment.

Inspection location

A type of inventory location exclusively designated to store items that are eligible for inspection upon receipt.

After the items have passed inspection, they are transferred to:

  • A normal location if they are approved.
  • A quarantine location if they are rejected.

Goods in an inspection location are always considered to be on-hold inventory.

Quarantine location

A type of warehouse location in which goods initially rejected during warehousing inspection or production are stored for further examination to determine their disposition.

Note: In locations of type Receiving, stock points are not supported.

Fixed Location

If this check box is selected, the location is a fixed location for one or more items in the Fixed Locations (whwmd3502m000) session. With inbound advice, fixed locations have a higher priority than those that are not fixed.

Location Occupied

If this check box is selected, the location contains one or more items.

If this check box is cleared, the location is unoccupied.

LN updates this field. As a result, you receive a quick insight into which locations are still unoccupied. If LN generates inbound advice and you have selected the Use Only Unoccupied Locations when Generating Inbound Advice check box in the Warehouse Master Data Parameters (whwmd0100s000) session, the value of this check box is taken into account.

Inbound Priority

The inbound priority number for the location. You can use this number when generating inbound advice. The highest allowed priority is 0 and the lowest allowed priority is 999999.

When generating inbound advice, LN first checks whether any fixed locations are available where the items can be stored. If so, LN then checks the inbound priority as it was recorded in the Fixed Locations (whwmd3502m000) session. With equal priorities, the location code is the decisive factor.

If items cannot all be stored in the fixed locations, LN will consider locations that are not fixed but only if the Use Free (Unfixed) Locations when Generating Inbound Advice check box in the Warehouse Master Data Parameters (whwmd0100s000) session is selected.

If more locations are available that are not fixed, these are also handled in sequence of inbound priority. This priority can be recorded with a number by location as well as location by item. The lowest number has the highest priority.

If there are many nonfixed locations for the same item, LN will advise by sequence of location code (when priorities are equal). The lower the code, the higher the priority.

Outbound Priority

The location's outbound priority.

When generating outbound advice, LN advises the locations in sequence of outbound priority. You can specify a number between 0 and 999999. If the location priorities are equal, the location code is the decisive factor.

Infinite Capacity

You can record data that gives insight into the capacity of each location.

If this check box is selected, capacity calculation does not apply to this location. You cannot fill in the total capacity in the next field. LN will not calculate the previously mentioned fields.

If this check box is cleared, LN will calculate the previously mentioned fields.

Note: The total location capacity can be so large that the capacity will never become critical. In such a case, you do not need to maintain the capacity. You can indicate whether LN must monitor capacities through the Infinite Capacity field.
Location Full

If this check box is selected, the location is full. As a result, no more items can be stored in the location.

Allow Other Items

If this check box is selected, you can advise an item to a fixed multi-item location that is not defined as a fixed location for the item in case the fixed location is fully occupied.

Note:

LN defaults this value for a specific location if the location is assigned as fixed location for an item for the first time.

LN also defaults this value when a fixed location is selected as multi-item location.

Multi-Item Locations

If this check box is selected, you can store items with different item codes at the locations.

Blocked for All Transactions

If this check box is selected, the location is blocked for all transactions. This check box is unavailable, so you cannot select or clear it. This check box is selected if the location is blocked in the Zone/Location Blocking (whwmd6110m000) session.
