Defining the Bill of Material

The component items of a manufactured item are listed in the BOM lines. Each BOM line contains information about the position of the component item in the BOM, the required quantity, the expiry date of the component item, and so on. The component items can be either manufactured or purchased. You can enter and maintain a BOM line directly in the Bill of Material (tibom1110m000) overview session. To change more details, you must double-click the BOM line, after which the Bill of Material (tibom1110m000) details session starts.

If you want to define an BOM for an item, you must first define the item in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session, as well as in the Item - Production (tiipd0101m000) session.

You can choose in the View menu how the BOM is presented, and, consequently, how the component items are entered:

Replacing outdated components

To replace an outdated component, proceed as follows:

  1. Insert a BOM line with the same BOM position number as the outdated component.
  2. Enter the date when the switch must occur in the Expiry Date field for the outdated component.
  3. Enter the same date in the Effective Date field for the new component.

If the outdated component is not used anymore in any BOM, you must set the item's last allowed order date in the Items - Ordering (tcibd2100m000) session. If the last allowed order date is specified by warehouse, you must use the Item Data by Warehouse (whwmd2510m000) session.

If the Alternative Materials check box is selected in the Implemented Software Components (tccom0100s000) session, and you enter a new component with the same BOM position number as an existing component, LN automatically inserts the outdated material as use-up material in the Use Up and Alternative Materials (tibom0150m000) session.
