Procedure for linking reference designators in the BOM

In LN, reference designators are linked to material on the BOM lines. You must carry out the following steps:

  1. Define reference designators

    Define reference designators in the Reference Designators (tcmcs0190m000) session. The reference designators can have, for example, names or codes that indicate the locations where a component must be inserted on an item.

  2. Link reference designators to an item on company level.

    If desired, you can link reference designators to an item in the Reference Designators by Item (tcibd0120m000) session.

    Linking reference designators to an item manually is not mandatory, but can be useful when one or more reference designators are only applicable to a specific item. If you do not manually link reference designators to an item in this step, reference designators are linked automatically to the item in the Reference Designators by Item (tcibd0120m000) session after you carry out Step 3.

  3. Link reference designators to material on an BOM line

    In the Job Shop List of Material (tibom3110m000) session, you can link reference designators to a specific BOM line for specific site in the tab Reference Designators.

  4. Select reference designators

  • If multisite functionality is active, the reference designators are added to a BOM linked to a specific item and site combination.

  • A reference designator can apply to one or more items on the BOM line. You must use the Quantity field in the Reference Designators by BOM (tibom0120m000) session to indicate the number of items on the BOM line to which the reference designator applies.

  • If you use the Enterprise Modeler Content Pack with LN, consider using the MMN3600 (Reference Designators) wizard to set up reference designators by BOM. You can execute this predefined wizard from the Wizards by Project Model (tgwzr4502m000) session after you specified the business function model for your company.

ExampleSuppose, the item quantity on an BOM line is six:

  • If you enter 1 in the Quantity field in the Reference Designators by BOM (tibom0120m000) session, the reference designator applies to only one item of the quantity on the BOM line.
  • If you enter 5, the reference designator applies to five out of six items of the BOM line quantity.
  • You can also enter a quantity of, for example, 2 for one reference designator, and 3 for another reference designator.
  • You can enter a quantity of 6 for a reference designator, which can mean that all items on the BOM line must be mounted on the same location.
  • If the item quantity on a BOM line is six, you can even enter 4 as the quantity for one reference designator, and 3 as the quantity for another reference designator. This signifies that one of the items on the BOM line is related to two reference designators.
